MURDER CASE VS. DUMPIT: 1st defense witness maintains shootout
    By Mylen P. Manto/JMO (The Freeman) Updated June 29, 2010 12:00 AM

CEBU, Philippines - The first defense witness in the murder case against policeman Adonis Dumpit told the court yesterday that suspected robber Ronron Go died in a shootout and not in a rob-out as alleged by a prosecution witness.

Police Inspector Porferio Gabuya, Jr., 45, of the San Nicolas Police Station said prosecution witness Glenda del Mar told a lie when she said in court that Dumpit shot Go intentionally.

Dumpit is now facing charges for Go’s death on December 14, 2004. The controversial policeman shot Go in Barangay Tejero where Dumpit lives after the robbery suspect allegedly victimized two passenger jeepneys at the North Reclamation Area.

In court yesterday, Gabuya stood firm that a shootout had occurred, as what some residents of Barangay Tejero reportedly told him. The residents reportedly told him they were “shocked” when the shootout occurred.

Gabuya said he conducted his own investigation to ascertain what really happened and he subsequently confirmed that a shootout had occurred.

He reportedly did not inform the homicide section of the city police office about his findings because homicide personnel were also conducting their own probe.

Gabuya, however, said that he could no longer remember the people that he spoke with at that time.

He said Dumpit only did his duty as a police officer and always sticks to his assignments no matter what the outcome would be.

“I’ll do everything for Dumpit so that he will not put into jail,” he added.

When asked by prosecutor Alfred Oguis if he found bullet shells at the crime scene, Gabuya said he did not find any.

Dumpit’s lawyer, Pedro Leslie Salva, said he is confident that his client would be exonerated from charges, as many would witness in his favor.

The court is yet to rule on Dumpit’s motion to post bail. (FREEMAN NEWS)
