How does a torch work?

I have seen this in Ace Hardware at SM. What is the principle at work here. I found out it fails to work at high altitudes.

fire needs 3 things: fuel, O2 and heat. at high altitudes, as what moz said, air is thinner and there is fewer O2 than in lower altitudes so fire couldnt burn that well as compared here on the ground.

dili pa hupas ang gas ani sis. ang mechanism lang sa nozzle ang may problema. that is what i need to find out.
