-Yes, there are a lot of free and legal applications that can turn your N8 into an Instant Messaging device.

I wanna use Wifi but my networks 3G/GPRS connects automatically, how to turn that thing off?
-Menu>Settings>Connectivity>Settings>Data use in home network>WLAN only

-But if you want to use your 3G for browsing, just choose the last option above to "Always ask" and then change the network coverage from GSM to 3G.

Advice on Xenon flash

There's a slight degree of red-eye removal in 'auto' mode, in that there's a small pre-flash, around a tenth of second before the big one - interestingly, if you explicitly set the flash mode as 'red eye reduction', the delay is raised to a second or so, but you get a brighter flash (around 10 to 20% brighter), since the flash unit has had longer to recharge. Thus your tip for the day, if trying to Xenon-shoot an subject that's more than a few metres away and wanting all the lumens you can get - turn red eye reduction on - even if your subject is a car!

n8 Symbian^3 Tips and Tricks

Keypad shortcuts (Select "Call" from homescreen)
- Bluetooth ON/OFF: longpress on '*'-key
- Call log: press call key
- Contacts: press on contacts icon
- Open browser: longpress on '0'-key
- Silent profile: longpress on '#'-key

Keypad codes (Select "Call" from homescreen and type...)

Clock and Profile -widget
- Active and edit profile: press on profile name on the widget

Miscellaneous
- Alarm Enable/Disable: Set alarm to repeat, then you can disable and enable it
- Animated Themes: Nokia default themes (not Midnight pack) have animated backgrounds, just active it from theme settings
- Data Counter: Open call log and tap on right tab to view data transfer log.
- Disconnect all networks: longpress with red call key
- Edit Homescreen: longpress on anywhere on the homscreen changes to edit mode
- Faster Homescreen: turn of theme effects from Themes settings to make switching between homescreens instant
- Favorites Widget: you can scroll the favorites widget horisontally and add more than four contacts, unlike in N97 homescreen
- Forced Reboot: press power key for eight seconds simulating "battery removal"
- "Full" Reset: hold "Volume Down + Camera Key + Menu Key" and press power button until your phone shake (Warning! Will remove some apps permanently like Ovi Store and Qt!)
- Predictive QWERTY: predictive text and word auto-completion are also supported on QWERTY, not only in keypad
- Screen Saver Notification: Use 'Music Player' screen saver to show new sms and missed calls icon on screen. Time, Date, Profile and Music being played will also be shown if enabled.
- Silence Calls/Snooze Alarms: turn around your phone upside down to silence calls or snooze alarms (set it on from Settings > Sensor settings)
- Special Characters: longpress on '1*'-character on QWERTY keyboard to input special characters like õ, ü, etc.
- Two way Charge: Both USB and regular thin-pin adapters can be used for charging
- Two way Keylock: open keylock by sliding keylock button on side OR by pressing menu key and then press on the screen where it says "Unlock"
- Two way TV-OUT: use HDMI cable to get digital TV Out (only N8/E7) with HD resolution or use 3.5mm cable for composite TV out
- Voice Command: hold Call button in homescreen (setup voice command first)
- USB OTG: you can directly connect almost any USB device to the phone (including USB mouse, -keyboard, -pendrive and -external HDD)
- Widget settings: in homescreen edit mode, press on widget (Notifications, Mail, Search and Shortcuts)
- Widgets Online/Offline: select Options > "Widget to Offline mode" from homescreen

- Calendar: browse through days by swiping through screen from left to right or vice versa to browse back
- Camera: use Pinch zoom to switch between 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios (9Mpix vs 12Mpix on N

- Camera: double press on screen to zoom (like with browser)
- Camera: you can also zoom by using volume keys
- Clock: switch between analog and digital clock by tapping the big clock shown on screen
- File Manager: connect to a network drive by choosing the setting from options menu (instead of Settings)
- File Manager: jump down on folder tree by pressing on one of the folder icons on top of the screen
- File Manager: open search bar by lightly pressing on camera key
- Gallery: Three ways to zoom pictures; by making a double press, a pinch zoom or by using volume keys
- Mail: Collapse and expand all days by doing longpress on a day
- Menu (App. Grid): instead of leaving it to background, choose Options > Exit
- Profiles: set profile (except general and offline) to change based on time of the day from profile settings
- Ovi Maps: share current (or favorite) location via MMS or E-Mail to any other Nokia device with Maps
- Task Manager: open Task Manager by doing longpress on (physical) menukey on the phone
- Task Manager: longpress on any of the apps to bring out option to close invidual or all running apps
- Lost Application (general): in case you accidently delete some of Nokia applications, like Communities or Midnight theme pack, use Software Update re-install it

10. See your work on the big screen
Look at the top of the Nokia N8 and you’ll see there’s a HDMI socket. Use the included HDMI adapter to connect the Nokia N8 to a large screen TV, and you’ll see increased quality when viewing videos and photos. If you’re shooting HD movies on the N8, they really deserve to be shown off on the big screen.

9. Edit photos into videos too
Video editing needn’t be limited to your live action clips. If you’ve got a Nokia N8 full of photos, the video editor can turn them into a swanky slideshow, ready for you to upload to websites, e-mail to friends or simply play on the big screen TV at home.

Just fire up the Video Editor from the Nokia N8 applications menu, then tap the icon labeled “Make a stylish slideshow”. Scroll left and right through the different styles of slideshow on offer, and tap the “select media” icon in the lower left to feed the N8 your photos.

Tap as many photos as you like, marking them with a tick icon, then choose the large tick in the lower left of the screen to use them.

The Nokia N8 slideshow generator will churn through your photos, so if you’ve chosen a lot, sit back and wait for a few seconds.

To add music, tap the musical note and choose a track from the Nokia N8 music library. Finally, tap the large tick in the lower left to see the finished article. Hit “Save” in the lower left to keep it saved on your Nokia N8 for posterity.

8. Insert stills into movies
If you’re editing a movie on the Nokia N8, don’t forget you can insert still shots too, they can be used with the N8 video editor effects to add punchiness and pacing to your creations. Just insert them in the same way as a movie clip, using the “select media” icon, then tap them and hit the stopwatch icon to change their duration. Add a transition each side, to give your photos a bit of movement, and you’ll have a great effect to use in conjunction with moving images.

7. Edit your own sounds too
The Nokia N8 video editor doesn’t just chop up moving images, it’s also a capable sound editor. Load a music or audio file using the music icon, after you’ve selected a video to go along with it, then hit the “Cut” icon, letting you choose in and out points for your accompanying audio

6. Search for sounds to match your videos
Got a Nokia N8 full of audio, but can’t find the file you want? No problem, tap the music icon in the N8 video editor and then prod the magnifying glass to search the whole of the Nokia N8 for the music you’ve misplaced.

5. See audio without hearing it
If you’ve added music to a movie in the N8 video editor, you’ll see a pattern of musical notation above your video clips. It’s there to indicate there’s a background track, and helps you identify which project still needs a final audio polish.

4. Edit as you shoot
We touched on this in our guide to Hollywood-grade HD home movies, but it’s worth recapping as a top tip: The N8 video recorder lets you pause between shots, without ending the clip. It has the effect of inserting jump-cuts between shots, while reducing the amount of clips you need to import at the editing stage.

Plan your shoot well, and you’ll be able to group shots as they’re recorded, saving you time when it comes to chopping them up.

3. One touch editing
You don’t have to go through the lengthy process of loading the Nokia N8 video editor and importing your clips manually each time you want to edit them. Say you’re browsing the photo library, and spot a video you shot which could do with a quick trim. Just press it, hold it and tap “edit” and the Nokia N8 will automatically import it into the video editor. Hey presto, you’re ready to work your editing magic!

2. Multi-function handles
If you’re editing text into your videos, keep an eye out for a multi-function toggle when controlling its size and shape. Add text to your video timeline, and you’ll see a rotation icon above the words “Enter text here”. Tap it, so it’s selected and coloured blue, then use the “handles” around the text to rotate it. If you’d rather use those handles for resizing, just tap the rotation toggle again, and resize at will!

1. Multitask while editing movies
The Nokia N8 is a multitasking powerhouse, but it’s so slick you’d hardly notice the clever stuff going on underneath, and how it can supercharge your video editing. Say you’ve chopped together a visual masterpiece, but can’t find the right soundtrack to accompany it.

Don’t quit the N8 video editing app, just hold down the N8 menu button to call up the multitasking control and scroll to the browser. If the browser isn’t open, tap the menu button and load it – don’t worry, the N8 video editor app will stay open in the background.

Now you’re free to scour the web for free audio files to accompany your video. Also, remember to check out Nokia Music, where you can buy music to suit your movie. Once it’s saved to the N8’s memory, hold down the menu button, skip back to the video editing app, and add it from the music library before hitting save.

Not impractical really, because it is kinda all-in-one device...

Ganahan ta ku sa phone kaso, mahadlok naku since nokia have BAD records upon their touch screen phones, especially that SLUGGISH symbian.

Though it may be symbian^3, still, i would advice to expect the worse. FALSE ADVERTISING can never be prevented especially that now they have lots of competitors, not to mention that growing Android.

And if you ever take a close look upon N8's videos, it seems to me that there is still that sluggish performance of symbian. With some transitional effects in the video such as flashing that covers the entire slow performance of the os.

But then, I maybe right or wrong. This is my opinion and you have your opinions too.
