jailbreaking an iphone means g.openline meaning dili xa at&t locked and can be used by any carriers dri sa pinas like sun, globe, smart and the like..pero naa pd globe locked kae authorized dealer pd ang globe og iphones besides at&t..

also, jailbreaking allows u to install/play applications for iphone which are cracked..meaning, they do not nid 2 be payed kae if mu download ka apps especially most apps kae naa man bayad (apple's marketing strat) mao i.jailbreak pra mka install and at the same time mka play og cracked apps ang imung iphone

Jailbreaking does not necessarily mean unlocking since you can jailbreak an iDevice without unlocking it.

"Jail" refers to file system limitations put in place by Apple on standard iPhones. These limitations restrict iPhone read and write access to just a small part of the media partition. You cannot access system files at all and you cannot use the disk directly as you would with an iPod with disk mode enabled.

Jailbreaking opens the entire iPhone file system for use. Jailbreaking also allows you to install third-party software (typically via Cydia) without using App Store and to access the Unix command line via OpenSSH. This lets you install software that otherwise cannot be obtained through App Store.

Your iDevice needs to be jailbroken before it can be unlocked.
