Stage 1: Arousal stage - this is the stage when there is a sudden increase of love chemicals PEA and DOPAMINE...Most probably this is brought about by the increase function of the LIMBIC system... That's why there is increase in heart rate, since Hypothalamus will force the adrenal glands to produce norepinephrine.. This stage is characterized by a feeling of euphoria and increased energy. The sudden increase of these chemicals overrides some parts of the brain that controls logical thinking. That's why, people are newly in love are usually illogical.
STAGE 2 - LASTING LOVE - Endorphine stage - After 6 months - 3 years, the relationship will level up to this very lasting phase. PEA, DOPAMINE and adrenaline chemicals are taken over by Endorphines, the feel good chemical but to a lesser degree than the others. The feelings of the couple will somehow stabilize. Though it is not as exciting as the first stage, the endorphine stage will produce more warmth, increased intimacy and dependability among the couple... This is the best stage to ask for her hand guys...lol When the relationship doesn't work out, the involved will feel disheartened and a feeling of being broken, this is endorphine withdrawal... it could last for a couple of months to several years.
