dude, i think you can run any program in xp that was designed for older operating systems using compatibility mode. else, you might want to try out reprogramming or recompiling the whole thing using vb.net (since it was originally made at vb5). in this case, there is something called: interoperability. this is sometimes used in converting old (i.e. COM based) programs in to .net. i think, may auto-convert nga eh. so i'm suggesting this, cause i think, this is the fastest work around for the problem. there are other good solutions, but it will take more time and funding though.

I prefer to create a new one to enhance its current application...

well if your asking how much, i recommend you put the price on work hours (8hr/day) if that's gonna take some time. else, you might want to make a fixed price for the entire package, we worked on a student info system once for 50k. however since that's just a net cafe automation system, 10k to 30k will do depending on how good the output is. my uncle, bought the same system once for 12k, it was specifically designed for him, and it was good too, it runs on both Linux and windows clients and servers complete with other features. however, i think the best way to do it is on work hours in order to avoid establishing fixed price in the beginning of the project. this way, the total price of the package will depend on how many 8hr days you've been working on it.

thanks for your opinion... but the program he needs doesnt focus on server client only... customer entry and update is also needed... and a simple sales for its merchandising... then workstation login access

500 to 800 per hour will do. perhaps for me, that's the safest.
