first about yngwie, he is a very good guitarist, very very fast but the only problem with his songwriting is it is so lame. It's just fast and furious stuff and his guitar solos are fast. havent you guys noticed that i used the word "fast" several times, cause thats the only way he can know how to play the guitar. He has no feel for melody. With regards to his attitude, now, this is his down-side. The guys is just so fu**ing arrogant, he has a head as large as jupiter's. He has no image, he always sees himself as the next Jimi Hendrix, please notice the way he sets-up his guitar, the same as hendrix, except he (yngwie) used a left-handed guitar and played it right-handedly (sorry for my terminologies). Does anybody here read his remarks on a certain guitar world issue, i dont know the exact issue but i remember what he did with his peers, He KILLED THEM!!!! He was asked by guitar world to describe or comment his peers, e.g. joe satriani,vai, bettencourt.............and you know what he did, he ripped them off. All of his comments was bad and full of angst, saying satriani is not a real player, gilbert sounds like a student. Damn!!! I think this guy (yngwie) is ignorant with success. Another example of his ego is the name of his band, he named it after himself and he is only the guitarist of the band. He writes the songs but it doesnt give him the right to name it for himself.................
about Dr. Vai. This guy is by far the greatest guitar player that has ever graced the instrument since jimi hendrix. He is able make emotion out of music, he can use different guitar sounds to his advantage, he always experiment and push the boundaries of music and guitar playing. Each of his songs has it's own story. Please listen to his song "windows of the soul" crying machine and massacre.................

Technically, the greatest rock guitarist alive is Steve Vai. From Classical Guitar to Jazz, his skills in guitar are as complete as Michael Jordan's are in basketbal. And he's smart too. If you listen to his albums, they're not just showcases of guitar wizardry, but also of funky, fun and dancable tunes. He knows that too much technical playing will alienate audiences. And, he has a sense of humor about it all.
For a short time (probably when I was in 2nd Yr. High School), I was a big Malmsteen fan. This was because my teacher, Benjie Rigor, was of the same neo-classical school. I would have weekly lessons on sweeps, palm-muted runs, harmonic-minor and the Lydian, Myxolydian modes.
And then I discovered Hendrix, and I just realized that Malmsteen is all noise and no substance. His playing proves nothing of himself except that he practices a lot. That's why his songs suck and that's why he's not as respected as VAI. He's soulless.
BTW, Vai has a doctorate in Music from Berklee and Malmsteen is an alcoholic has-been living in Japan.

i used to admire a lot of Yngwie's playing......you just can't help but admit that he is a very fast player....i must admit too that i am a speed-picking freak that's why i loved him.....but there came a time when i just got bored of his style and his being an airhead.....too much speed isn't everything.....you can learn from him....just don't try to play like him....
Steve Vai....what a nice little boy......hehehehe.....he is one hell of a speed demon too....but he does it sometimes only....i like his style, techniques, and sound.....a little bit of everything....
