Default Raid 0 - does it increase performance?

My mobo has support for SATA RAID 0. (Gigabyte x58 ud5)

Im planning to buy another 500gb or 1terabyte HDD then i thought i could buy four 80gb or 160 hdd and use RAID 0.

will it increase performance? kinsay gagamit na ug Raid 0?

just want to know if it's worth it (the performance gain)

p.s. - how does it compare to SSD harddisk? layu ba or mas ok mag raid 0 na lang.

    fyi bro.

    RAID 0

RAID 0 (striped disks) distributes data across multiple disks in a way that gives improved speed at any given instant. If one disk fails, however, all of the data on the array will be lost, as there is neither parity nor mirroring. In this regard, RAID 0 is somewhat of a misnomer, in that RAID 0 is non-redundant. A RAID 0 array requires a minimum of two drives. A RAID 0 configuration can be applied to a single drive provided that the RAID controller is hardware and not software (i.e. OS-based arrays) and allows for such configuration. This allows a single drive to be added to a controller already containing another RAID configuration when the user does not wish to add the additional drive to the existing array. In this case, the controller would be set up as RAID only (as opposed to SCSI only (no RAID)), which requires that each individual drive be a part of some sort of RAID array.

theoretically, yes..but f one drive fail, all files will be lost..pag raid 1 na lng or raid 5

yes. para lang man ni sa OS and games. not for data.
currently i have 3 500gb hdd. my mobo can support up to 10sata connections.

just wondering about the performance. score man gud sa windows7 is that my HDD is only 5.9. hinay daw ako HDD. im currious about the performance gain for 4hdd raid 0. or mag raid5 na lang guro ko.

im planning to buy another HDD to backup my sensitive data, and then RAID the 3 hdd.
    or
buy three or four 80-160gb hdd and raid them. saving me the trouble of backing up my files.

tutal the same ra man ang cost.

my raid 0 on X38 board got a 5.9 score in windows 7.
get an SSD if you want higher score.

Raid 0 is risky and I don't believe that in the real world it's worth it. Personally I'd use a single quality HD for O/S, two or three separate drives for archiving/back-up then concentrate on bigger Ram, timings and FSB.

Once solid-state hurdles have been overcome any Raid 0 performance gains from disc technology will pale in comparison.

I scored 5.9 on my Caviar Green. Raid ) is up to 5.9 only. Known bug ni sa WEI. One to go past 6.0? Go for an SSD

raid 0 is not worth it if dili SSD nyahahahaha
daghan au lalis sa forum about ani overall proven not really that much ang performance increase
if mag raid 0 og mechanical hard drives ssd na lang gamita para pas pas hahahaha

dugay-dugay man jud ko naka RAID 0 and sadly, i must admit, wala ko'y ma feel nga difference on normal desktop usage. makita ra nimo ang advantage if you are copying large files (continous), mas paspas jud siya.
