MANUAL... I don't shoot with Canon XS10 but a Canon 500D . If your camera has spot metering then use it.so you can get the full effects of the lighting.
P mode para way hasol...whew
Manual
Auto Modes will give you crazy exposures. Trust me.Manual for consistency...
manual if you understand about the exposure triangle, or if you want to achieve certain shots like silhouette of the subject against background lights for example.
shutter priority or TV for me to make sure there is no motion blur. given the dark setting, i'm pretty sure your camera will use the brightest available aperture it has. your iso should be around 800-1600, i hope it is enough to capture your subject with the available lights.
depende unsa gusto nimu na makuha. if you want naay blur gamay for motion effect use the Tv or S and set it to like 1/15s. and set the ISO to auto. then to freeze the subject increase shutter speed. If the subject is far and you zoom it all the way to the end, i-manual and flash to max power.
daghan pa pwede nimu mabuhat to get the same effect basta kablo ka sa basics sa iso, shutter speed and aperture.
Since you claimed to be inexperienced with the camera, don't even think about going manual mode. It will only give you more trouble than good. Your safest choice would be the PRESET Night Snapshot and make sure you have flash enabled and your external flash mounted.
You may experiment with Tv (shutter priority) and set it to the settings mentioned in the previous posts to get motion blur or stop motion. You may also try 2nd curtain flash for more creative effects. If everything else fails, go back to night snapshot. Also, naay limit imong flash when it comes to distance. If you're too far, useless na imong flash and will only result in a dark stage and overexposed scalp/heads of people in front of you. Stay within ISO 400 - 800. Don't bother going 1600, you're photos will really look crappy and you don't want that to happen when taking a snapshot of your idol Arnel Pineda diba?Ok lang ang 1600 anang mga dSLR.
