ABS-CBN welcomed Season 1 winner of Randy Jackson presents America’s Best Dance Crew, the world-renowned all-male hip-hop group The Jabbawockeez as the newest addition to the ASAP family. The Jabbawockeez signed a contract with ABS-CBN Channel Head Cory Vidanes, Head for TV Productions Linggit Tan, and ASAP Business Unit Head Joyce Liquicia, so that the California-based dance crew will now be seen every Sunday performing on ASAP XV.
The Jabbawockeez is composed of Jeff "Phi" Nguyen, Ben "B-Tek" Chung, Kevin "Keibee" Brewer, Chris “Cristyle" Gatdula, Rynan "Kid Rainen" Paguio, Phil "Swaggerboy" Tayag, and Joe "Emajoenation" Larot. Chris, Rynan, Phil, and Joe are Filipinos raised in the US, while Kevin and their DJ Nick are married to Filipinas. Chris expressed how proud he is that through The Jabbawockeez, he gets to represent the Philippines to the world. “A lot of people in the US know we’re Filipinos, I guess based on our appearances. When we do shows, we try to speak Tagalog when we get to meet Filipino fans. We’re proud to be Filipinos.”
Despite enjoying international fame, The Jabbawockeez had no hesitations about being based in the Philippines for a time. “We’re planning to stay here for as long as you want us to be here. Why not the Philippines? There’s a lot to love here,” said Joe. For Rynan, coming home to Manila gives them the chance to thank all the Filipinos who became a fan of their dance crew. “We found out that we have lots of fans here in the Philippines. By performing more frequently here we hope can at least give back and inspire more young people to also follow their dreams. Dancing is what we really love to do and we want to share this with everyone.”
In the past 15 years, ASAP has been the home of the best dance groups in the country like Streetboys, Manouevers, X-10, and G-Force. The hit Sunday musical-variety show also innovated countless dance crazes through its various dance segments. Most of the members of The Jabbawockeez happily confessed that back in the US their televisions at home are mostly tuned in to TFC and watching ASAP has been a family habit. Phil said he is excited to be part of ASAP XV, which for sure will make his family back in the US very proud of him. “It’s an honor for me to make my family proud, my Nanay and Tatay and all my relatives back home. They are fans of ASAP that’s why they are very happy when they found out that we’re going to be performing on the show every week. I’m excited to be in ASAP with my Jabbawockeez brothers.”
