Japanese Fire Belly newts prefer aquarium with a small land area to crawl out on and heavy stands of aquatic plants. They do not need any special lighting, but incandescent light can be used. You will need at least a 2.5 gallon terrarium. The best land-water ratio is 1/3 land and 2/3 water, with at least 4 inches in depth. It is best to have a hiding spot/cave to avoid stressing out the newts. The ideal substrates for a newt terrarium are either any moss besides peat moss, sand, or fairly large gravel to avoid ingestion. The water should be about 60-74°F, though these newts can tolerate much higher temperatures than other species. Like other newts, they can be fed commercial pellets or freeze-dried food, but if they refuse these, they should be given live food such as bloodworms, earthworms, mosquito larva, ghost shrimp, nightcrawlers, or pinhead crickets. In order to feed a newt earthworms of any sort, you must chop them into bite sized pieces. Worms can live as long as at least one inch of the clitellum (head) is left. You can either feed by hand, or with tweezers of forceps of some kind. Uneaten crickets must be removed, as they will bite a sleeping newt. What you feed your newt is entirely up to you, but make sure you feed them something that they will eat. It isn't a good idea to house them with other amphibians other than their own kind because the fire-bellied toad is known to try to eat newts. They may be housed with their close relative, Cynops orientalis but it is not recommended as Cynops pyrrhogaster tends to get larger by at least two inches.

substrate kay fine sand (washed) pero lisod ilimpyu w/o filter, then usa ka driftwood (knang dghan curves, likay anang mga hait na drftwood) pra climb (although mine gapuyo nas tubig) en.ani ang mhetabu :

less water + more opportunity to climb sa drftwood pr sa land(subtrata)= terrestrial phase sila (like most amphibians)

however

sa white gold (ara gkan akung newts, purchased by june for just 50php) it's so sad to see juveniles gebutang drtso sa tubig (most of the juveniles stays terrestrial sa wild unless nay tubig to swim on) mau na ma deadz ang uban galutawx2 lang hehe so mine aku sya ge lessen ang tubig sa iya enclo , meaning, cge sila stnby sa ilang kahoy, hehe w/ d succeeding months before january, in.ani sila murag boring tnawn kay d jud manglangoy, handfed pjud ug tubifex worm ug mini latz, pero pag january to february (spring sa China ug Japan)ako ge pun.an ug tubig pero wa gepuno, meaning naa japun cla katkatan. w/ d succeeding days (to my surprise) nag langoyx2 na sila, hehe d nsad nku sila ma handfed so ang ginakaon nila karon kay frozen bloodworms(sa petshops) ug fishfood pellets(lessen lng since dali mka foul sa water). Sa yuta they rely on eye sight;whereas sa tubig they rely on d sense of smell so ayaw katinga nga kung mag hulog kag pellets dedmahon nila, kaw wa pana sila kabaho, pero later on mawa rana kay gekaon naman..mine? bloodworms gikaon, half-capsule lng kay ma obese imu newt, @ least sa worms, mkkta ka unsa sila ka wild mukaon haha murag manhasi mangaputol ang worms gud..

akong newts as of this month (april) nkui nabantayan sa akung usa ka fire belly, murag ni lapad iya tail or so to say, ni morph (sa Pic mau na kanang meju dakox2 sa ryt side). once ma kumpletu nani sya, aw sa tubig nani puyo pirme hhehe, ang usa pud usahay mukatx2, mag pauga dayun musawm balik.. base ni sakung research ug observation , so maybe dili sak2 aku gepost, but I can testify how healthy my newts are as of now,
