Default Need Advice for Aveo Oil Change / Tuneup

I want to do my own oil change for my 2007 Aveo LT. Any advice?

Where do I get the oil filters, fuel filters, air filters, aircon filters. I have a feeling they aren't as commonly found as Honda/Toyota parts.

    I plan to do
    * Oil change, Oil filter change (who knows the size of of the plug? i read somewhere its torx-60)
    * Coolant flush, new coolant (who knows where the plug is?)
    * Spark plugs (who knows what kind and gap?)
    * Fuel filter (where is this? underneath car driver side right?)
    * Air filter (i know how to replace this already)
    * A/C filter (i know how to replace this already)

    Tune-up done. Its no sweat.
The oil filter is a daewoo part. Same filter as Optra. Buy sa caltex (caltex mango akoa). P280.
The oil is Shell Semi-Synthetic 10w-40. P1,200. Better if 5w-30 or 10w-30, but those are hard to find. Petron ra naa, and its more expensive.
The spark plugs can be bosch. Learn the coding, I'll post the BOSCH codes tomorrow. They're easy to find. They're smaller than usual. Not 21mm, they're actually 16mm with 1.0 to 1.1mm gap. P165 each.

There are two oil drain plugs. One is in the center, underneath a ribbed oil pan. The one towards the driver side is actually ATF drain. You loosen the one on the center of the vehicle.

Its not an easy oil change because the car does sit very low on the ground. A ramp may be used. Or jack it up, and use jack stands. When it is raised a fraction, everything is accessible na. Be safe, never use jacks only.

i'm no mechanic. i only wanted to do my own oil change to learn more about my car. so if people have an aveo, optra (or older civic, corona, crosswind), my experience is limited to those cars.

as far as i know, "special" oils may mean semi-synthetic or fully synthetic. there are pros and cons. as a rule, if you have a very new car nga mahalon (benz, bmw, etc), its most likely using a fully synthetic oil out of the factory. the intervals are long, and you can run up to 25,000km without oil changes. pero dapat synthetic na jud siya daan pag palit pa lang. if you own an older car, nya mineral oil na siya daan, going fully synthetic without dropping the oil pan and draining every bit of old oil won't do you much good kay synthetic lagi ang nag circulate, but the soot and deposits from the old oil will still contaminate your engine.

so its better cheap oil ra, correct weight jud dapat, and do it more frequently. at least once a year (6-9 mos. recommended), considering Cebu stop and go traffic. the km's run is not a reliable indicator because there are hardly any long roads in Cebu, and if you base it on that alone, you might run years before you achieve 10 or 15 thousand km's recommended oil change interval. this is harmful considering that cars in cebu is almost always stuck in traffic. stop and go traffic follows "severe" maintenance schedule in your manual.

in my case, manual stated 5w-30 in cold climates or 10w-30 in hotter climates. oil sold in cebu (shell, caltex) is 10w-40 ang pinaka gaan. this offers a bit more protection from overheating, and from friction on your moving parts, albeit a poor fuel economy. naa daw 5w-30 sa petron but wa pa jud ko kakita. i might try katon gi recommend ni Changimae na motul, but even that is 10w-40 as well. so the search is on...

newer cars have moved to 0w-20 or 0w-30, so check what is recommended by the manufacturer. that oil is even harder to find outside the "casa".

i'm sorry, but i don't trust the dealer or shops around here. there are many many horror stories. its important you understand how your car works, even if you're not a mechanic, para dili sa ka ma-ilad. if you NEED to take your car to a shop for something beyond your capabilities (even oil change for difficult vehicles), take them to Ultra Medic. katong duol sa redemptorist ba. I've trusted them for over 15 years. I'm sure there are more 'good' shops, but I can only tell from first hand experience with them.

this is not a thread about where to bring it. it is about what to do (for non-mechanics) who want to do basic maintenance on their own cars. doing this made me learn a lot more about my car, and how things work. doing the research also helped me make decisions about many things, with two goals in mind: to keep my engine in good condition, and to save on gas from good maintenance.
