    Talking Istorya.Net Monthly Photo Contest - Info Thread


    Ok. Since people requested/asked for it --> https://www.istorya.net/forums/photog...aphy-mods.html . So let's give this another shot.

    Istorya.Net Monthly Photo Contest

    I. THREE THREADS WILL BE CREATED FOR EACH MONTHLY CONTEST.

    1st Thread: "Contest Announcement" Thread.
    - Announcement of the theme
    - Status Updates
    - Post here if you have questions regarding the current months contest

    2nd Thread: "All Entries" Thread.
    - Will contain all the entries submitted on and before the dead line (Wednesday of the 3rd week of the month).
    - Entries will be placed on this thread in any order and will not have any name of the photographer.
    - This thread will be locked to refrain people from posting unnecessary comments.

    3rd Thread: "Voting for the Entries" thread.
    - A poll will be created with corresponding entry numbers based on the 2nd Thread.
    - No unnecessary talking. You may discuss things on the 1st thread.
    - This thread is STRICTLY FOR POLL VOTES ONLY. Infractions will be given to violators. Use the 1st thread if you have some questions.


    II. MECHANICS:

    Who can join the contest.
    - Any member of Istorya.Net

    For image to qualify, it must meet all these criteria/s:
    - One entry per forum member
    - Photos must be taken on the 1st and 2nd week of the month. See VI Schedule of Activities
    - Must be submitted on or before the deadline;
    - Must be within the spirit of the theme;
    - Image must be in JPEG format;
    - Image size must be limited to 500 pixel at its longest side;
    - PP is ok Global enhancement or Not but not to the point that it will be over PP. (remember this is a photography contest.. not photoshop);
    - Image must not be a composite;
    - Image must not have any signature or water mark.
    - Image must not have any frames or borders.
    - Image filename must be the photo title
    - You took the picture and not someone else.
    - Only forum members are allowed to vote.
    - We expect the voters to have their own conviction and will not be swayed by consensus or peer pressure.
    - Submit your entries to this email address only: dbgg1979@gmail.com


    III. YOUR EMAIL MESSAGE MUST BE IN THIS FORMAT

    Subject Title: Istorya.Net Monthly Photo Contest "Month" Entry e.g. Istorya.net Monthly Photo Contest January Entry
    Body: your forum handle/name and some info(if there is any) like lighting setup and etc.
    Attachment:
    1. Your entry photo
    2. Original photo (Raw or the Original Jpeg straight out of the camera)


    IV. USER CONDUCT
    - We want the entries to be anonymous until the announcement of the winners. To both the photographers and viewers, please refrain from posting information that will giveaway the identity of the photographer of a certain photo.
    - Refrain from giving your comments or suggestions while the contest is still active.
    - Violation will result in infractions.


    V. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

    - The photographer/s who took the photo will retain all their copyrights.
    - Moderators may join the monthly contest.
    - To viewers and photographers, please refrain from giving comments and suggestions in any of the threads related to the current active monthly photo contest. You will receive infractions if you do so.
    - Entries will be displayed in the POLL with their titles only with no name of the photographer to keep entries anonymous.


    VI. SCHEDULE of ACTIVITIES

    - 1st to 2nd week of the month - Shoot and Submit
    (Last Day of Submission is on Monday 12pm of the 3rd week)
    - 3rd week - Voting Week. Entries will be uploaded to a flickr account, displayed on the 2nd thread and locked. The 3rd thread - POLL Thread will then be opened for votes.
    - 4th week - Announcement of winners. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Winners will be posted on the Istorya.Net front page.

    *FYI, our week starts on Monday and ends on Sunday

    We'd like to here your comments on the draft rules/mechanics of the photo contest.

    Those set of rules are good to go. Naa lang ko some questions:

    Aside sa bragging rights, unsa pa makuha sa winning entry per month? Premium account sa Istorya perhaps? Rankings ni? If rankings up to what level?

    How many times would a member be allowed to vote? Is a member allowed to vote even if wala cya nag-submit ug entry for that month?


    Suggestion:
    How about if we do a point system say
    1st place - 10pts
    2nd place - 7 pts
    3rd place - 5 pts
    4th place - 3 pts
    5th place - 1 pt

    then gather those points for the whole year then the member to score the most number of points becomes a grand champion or whatever you call it for that year then naay pahalipay like trophy or something.

    Nice suggestion for the scoring system. Sige noted and I'll discuss this with karlo, zubano and beor. Finalize nato ni on Monday (December 21, 2009). As for prices... Let's see what we can request from our Istorya friends and preferred partners.

    my questions and suggestions if welcome:

    1. any set of criteria for over PP?

    2. any set of criteria for being composite?

    3. i think the image filename should be the photographers initial concatenated with the photo title, to make it distinct.

    4. only forum members are allowed to vote. how about we change it to "Only istorya.net members are allowed to vote", that way it would be more specific.

    5. Submit your entries to this email address only: dbgg1979@gmail.com. This is clearly an abomination, bias and it contradicts to "V. Additional Information". IMO, how about we will disqualify anyone authorized to control the site to make this fair and square.

    6. about the schedule of activities. i think it would be easier for the layman's to understand if we say it this way... "Day 1 to day 15 shoot and submit, day 16 @ 12pm deadline of submission. Day 17 until the 2nd to last day of the same month is our voting period. last day of the month is our proclamation of winners.

    take note:
    a mechanics/guidelines must not have its own ambiguity to prevent the unthinkable argument from happening to the anonymous.

    i'm willing to discuss everything i stated here in an orderly manner personally if needed. peace!

    Noted and very much appreciated that this thread is finally getting serious feedbacks Willing ko mo discuss ani in detail Dlanyer. When kaha ta maka discuss ani? Puno na kaayo ako sched until monday (sa-aran na sa asawa). I will be in JY Square area on monday by 6pm to attend a kiddie party sa McDo and after that I'm free. Maayo unta if others who want to give serious input in this can join the discussion in person.

    Gi suggest raman gud ni nga event, I decided to push through this nalang kaysa plano2x lang. Posted the draft for others to criticize and contribute their ideas. Ok ra ko if wala koi labot ani, actually sa meeting I said walay labot ang officers mo handle ani nga contest.

    Worst case, If naa kay google wave, pwede sad g-wave nalang ta if apiki na sa time. I'll be leaving Cebu on 23 and nindot unta final nani before end of this month. My google wave is dangerona@googlewave.com

    before anything else. attention! bro Karlo Matuguinas, you must me on site during our discussion to be aware about the granularity of the aforementioned refinement.

    sure! we can meet this coming monday at jy around 5:30pm so you can surely attend the 6pm party. this is not really hard to implement, we already have our baseline. all we need now is to refine it.

    To all photographic istoryans:
    be exposed! share that brilliant idea you have in mind. don't hide it! you probably a descendant of Albert Einstein or might be having the same bloodline with Socrates.

    finally, i'm eying now several sponsors that's willingly and cordially wanted to provide us prices related to photography. "sure ko naa jud mo suggest nga camera ang price, pero dili lang pud nato pakuratan ang sponsors, house and lot lang usa ato pangayo-on to follow na ang camera" hehehe! just kidding para pawala sa kunot sa inyo agtang while nagbasa ani nga reply.
