HTML is not a programming language, but a mark-up language parsed by browsers to create graphical presentations based on html tags. It's a coding standard planned by internet browser developers.

Techniques can be applied in different ways, first you have to look deep into your heart what is your desired system you want to create.
If want web, then go to perl, php, mysql, or any web programming that relates to server.
If you want desktop, learn c++ c# or java or whatever.................

It's up to you where you like to start.

    -- create a simple project
-- read books - by doing it repetitively you can see implementation patterns.

You need practise, exercise your analysis into another step. You need something SPARK or inspiration to take your analytical skills to skyhigh. Take your time. Don't limit yourself in the school. Please learn beyond school or learn in advance. Visit more forums or research more programming secrets that you can't find in school.

As you can see, in programming world...... school is just entry level even in college. Once you are in working environment there are things you can't find in school. REALLY REALLY. Beleive me, I was in your situation before.
