Iranian president reiterates its right to nukes
Ahmadinejad shrugs off international referral to U.N. Security Council

Updated: 2 hours, 23 minutes ago

TEHRAN, Iran - President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Thursday shrugged off a decision by world powers to refer Iran to the U.N. Security Council over its atomic program, saying Tehran would never abandon its “right to exploit peaceful nuclear technology.”

The permanent members of the Security Council plus Germany agreed on the referral Wednesday, saying they had given Iran long enough to respond to a package of incentives intended to persuade it to abandon uranium enrichment — a process that can lead to the production of nuclear weapons.

The powers said in Paris they would seek a resolution requiring Iran to suspend its enrichment activities.

Well more conflict in the mid east the more money Iran gets, well being world's second biggest proven oil reserves after Saudi Arabia and the second biggest gas reserves after Russia, and with its control the shipping lanes where oil passes thu (Persian Gulf). Uncertainty in the future of the mid-east benefits them greatly...

Also, why is the U.S. threatened by Iran more than NoKor? , because of Iran's plan to create a euro-dominated exchange (Iran Oil Bourse). The current U.S. debt crisis makes its economy dependent on the high demand for its currency in order to remain afloat. If this billions of dollars worth of oil sales were turned into euros it could bring serious problems for the U.S. economy.

Oh by the way, This idea of turning oil money in to Euro isnt new, befor he was ousted, Saddam Hussein himself decided to sell oil in euro dominated contracts...

    Iran Resolution Circulated at U.N.

A European draft resolution delivered yesterday to U.N. Security Council proposes using the threat of sanctions, but not military action, to force Iran to halt uranium enrichment and address uncertainties about its nuclear programs, the Associated Press reported (see GSN, July 20).

If Iran continues to resist, sanctions initiated under Article 41, Chapter 7, of the U.N. Charter could include economic or air travel sanctions or suspension of diplomatic relations.

The document — proposed by the “EU-3” of France, Germany and the United Kingdom, with support from the United States — would require Iran to comply with previous council and International Atomic Energy Agency demands to stop uranium environment.

While Washington had pushed for a vote on the resolution this week, the Lebanon is likely to delay such action, AP reported. Russia’s opposition to sanctions also appears to persist.

The Security Council’s permanent members and Germany conducted talks yesterday, and delegates were scheduled to meet again today.

“It’s now Thursday, I’m not sure how we’re going to do this by Friday, but creative minds might yet find a way through,” said U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton.

The draft resolution requires that Iran abide by the demands by August, but includes no reference to Tehran’s statement yesterday that it would respond Aug. 22 to a Western incentives package aimed at curtailing its nuclear program (Associated Press/New York Times, July 22).

The draft resolution requires that states thwart ballistic missile and nuclear technology trade with Iran, the Washington Post reported today. It also calls on Iran to submit to additional, intrusive U.N. inspections — more than required by the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty. The International Atomic Energy Agency would report next month on whether Iran had met the requirements, the Post reported.

Russia made efforts to remove passages in the draft requiring Iran to stop enrichment and reprocessing of nuclear fuel. Moscow proposed, instead, that the council ask Iran to fulfill the obligation. Russia also offered amendments that would slow the potential imposition of sanctions and ensure the resolution could not be used to authorize military action (Colum Lynch, Washington Post, July 21).

China and Russia might be backing away from the demand for a halt to Iranian uranium enrichment, one British diplomat said, according to Bloomberg.

“We have seen this happen before with China and Russia,” said British Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations Karen Pierce. “They think that if they can row back a bit, why not try?” (Bloomberg, July 20).

Iran reaffirmed yesterday its determination to produce nuclear fuel on its soil, Reuters reported.

“Based on law, Iran has planned to produce 20,000 [megawatts] of nuclear electricity in the next 20 years and needs to produce nuclear fuel inside the country for those reactors,” Larijani said in a statement (Reuters/New York Times, July 20).

Iran starts new uranium enrichment days ahead of deadline

    Agence France-Presse
Last updated 11:54pm (Mla time) 08/30/2006

VIENNA -- Iran started a new round of enriching uranium only days ahead of the United Nations deadline on Thursday for it to stop the strategic nuclear fuel work or face possible sanctions, diplomats told Agence France-Presse.

"They put in small quantities of (feedstock) uranium hexafluoride (UF6) gas last week," into a cascade line of 164 centrifuges in Natanz which enrich uranium, a diplomat close to the UN-watchdog International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said Wednesday.

A second diplomat, who like the first asked not to be named, said the Iranians were doing this "to underscore the point that they are not going to stop enrichment-related activities."

The UN Security Council has demanded that Iran suspend all uranium enrichment and reprocessing activities by August 31, amid US-led concerns that Tehran's nuclear program is a cover for an attempt to produce an atomic bomb.

What do you guys think this is all about again...? the Nuclear Weapons? What, like Iraq...?

So, will the US strip these guys of their NUCLEAR ARSENAL:

    1.) Russia
    2.) UK
    3.) France
    4.)China

And what about India and Pakistan? They have done some nuclear testing too...

And Israel? Israel allegedly has an inventory of 200 nuclear weapons... how come the US never spoke about that...?

As usual, America will try to bully the small nations who go against their wishes... and, as Anton has mentioned above:

(Iran) being the world's second biggest proven oil reserves after Saudi Arabia and the second biggest gas reserves after Russia, and with its control the shipping lanes where oil passes thu (Persian Gulf).

Hmmm, I bet that sounds SOWEEEEEET to Bush Sr. and Jr., and their scalawags...

Stay tuned as the US takes over the whole middle east, except for their sponsors, Israel and Saudi... hehehe

Soon Wealthy Moslem Investors will dump their USA stocks and OPEC (mostly Moslem Nations) switches from the US Dollar to The EURO Dollar. Major European & Japanese Investors follow suit and sell their billions of dollars worth of USA Stocks.

The result is the Total Collapse of The U.S. STOCK MARKET as a Second, Economic Depression sweeps across America.

This will surely happen if the World Leaders won't resolve the conflicts in the middle east.

We are watching a political war right now.

I hope the world leaders will agree on something beneficial to all inorder to prevent this mess.

Might be sanctions that UN would award Iran doesnt bring any good to the whole world, especially the striving Filipino people. Conflicts that hits the mideast badly affects us as proven by the rise of oil prices leading to the rise in the prices of our essential commodities from previous war scenes. At some point in time we might think that the US of A cares for the whole world, but in reality it only cares for their own. America is leading the charge of Imperialistic countries in the whole world, and allies with these countries and sharing with them the wealth they get from the oppressed countries, just like the Philippines. I am not saying Iran's actions were justified, but I'd rather be on the side of Iran than favor a country such as America which behind its 'America Cares' motto, indirectly oppressed poor countries to benefit their own
