Default November 27 - 28 holiday for ARMM region only

Bad news for those who already made plans for these days...

MANILA, Philippines--President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has declared the two-day celebration of Eid値 Adha later this month as holidays only in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).

Eid値 Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice or Day of Sacrifice, is observed after the hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia.

The Office of the Press Secretary announced on its website Saturday that Ms Arroyo issued Proclamation No. 1808-A declaring Nov. 27 and Nov. 28 regular holidays only in the ARMM and not the entire country

    Eid’l Adha no longer a national holiday (12:27 p.m.)
    Monday, November 2, 2009

MANILA -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo amended Proclamation 1808 declaring November 27 and 28 as national holiday for the celebration of Eid’l Adha.

Under Proclamation 1808-A, Eid’l Adha will no longer be a national holiday but a regional holiday in Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Armm).

The celebration of Eid’l Adha is supposed to be the second long weekend this month after the back-to-back celebration of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day, Sunday and Monday, respectively.

President Arroyo earlier declared Eid’l Adha as a national holiday since it is one of the greatest feasts of Islam.

Press Secretary Cerge Remonde over a radio interview apologized to those affected by the changes in the proclamation, saying that the government only considered the situation of the country today.

Remonde said that some concerned sectors appealed for the amendment of 1808 due to the disasters that hit Luzon including Metro Manila.

He said two long weekends will have an effect in the productivity of the country. (Jill Beltran/Sunnex)
