CEBU CITY – The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) denied allegations of a “rubout” in the raid that killed four suspected notorious members of the Alvin Flores gang in Barangay Estaca Compostela town, north of Cebu City, late Thursday afternoon.
NBI 7 Director Medardo Delemos insisted there were no irregularities in the raid conducted jointly by NBI 7 along with NBI elements from Manila against the bandit gang which had been involved in the recent brazen daytime heist of a luxury watch shop at the affluent Greenbelt 5 Mall at the Makati Commercial Center in Makati City, Manila recently.
According to the police, media was barred from entering the shoot-out scene which resulted in the death of four gang suspects, including its leader, Alvin Flores, for nearly five hours for their own security.
Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 Director Lani-O Nerez supported the NBI 7 Director’s claim saying the operation was legitimate that the police had been informed of the raid even before the operatives proceeded to the area.
Delemos said the NBI had informed Cebu City Police Office Director Jesus Gaquing and the Chiefs of Compostela and Danao police stations to ensure that there will be no misencounters in the raid considering that the NBI personnel were in civilian clothes.
Meanwhile, the NBI Saturday revealed that two of the four fatalities in the shootout were natives of Santa Fe, Bantayan Island, Cebu.
The fatalities were identified as Alvin Flores, Richie Hijapon, Mark
Salamanca, and a still unidentified male suspect. Another wounded suspect, Rene Batiancila, was arrested.
The four were staying at the Dodong’s Duplex Resort in Barangay Estaca, Compostela, north of Cebu, when elements of the Reaction.
