im not much of a local film buff myself but if you want i would suggest you go for indie pinoy films since these films dont have that much comercial influence in it compared to mainstream films. filmsdirectors

most indie directors are fresh out of school and are idealists when it come to their films. though im not gonna xpect state of the art cinematography, some of these indie films have good stories to boast.

OF COURSE pinoy films are worthy to watch! Ayaw lang nang mainstream like from Star Cinema.

    Hunt movies by:
Lav Diaz (Batang West Side is mga 5 hours, Melancholia, etc)
Brilliante Mendoza (Serbis was pretty good though not that great, Masahista had some great moments, Foster Child, wa pa ko kita Kinatay but I feel it's something interesting, Manoro)
Pepe Diokno just recently won at Venice Film Festival for Engkwentro
    Raymond Red (HImpapawid, Anino)
    Raya Martin (Independencia, Manila, etc)
Ralston Jovel's debut film Bakal Boys just recently won at the Vancouver International Film Fest

And actually mga great Filipino classics are available on legit DVD like films by:
Lino Brocka (Insiang, Maynila, Tinimbang, Orapronobis, Bona, Isa Dalawa Tatlo, etc)
Ishmael Bernal (City After Dark, Pahiram ng Isang Umaga, Himala)
Mario O'Hara (Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos, Bakit Bughaw ang Langit, Kastilyong Buhangin)
Mike de Leon (Sister Stella L, Kisapmata, Batch 81)

And I have heard a lot of great things about Yam Laranas. Wa pa lang ko kitag mga salida niya but a lot of blogs sa mga cinephile horror fans praise him. His movies include Sigaw (which was re-made in Hollywood as The Echo) and lately Patient X.

There are a lot of great reasons to celebrate Filipino films. Ang kaso lang our age is bombarded by movies made to make money. Especially from Viva, Star Cinema, GMA films. Saonz.

some of them are worth watching sad, like comedy. makakat.on kag mga kabuang. at least if you have lots of problems there is a temporary solution. mgtan.aw lng ka in.ani nga mga movies pareha kang ruffa mae quinto ug kang pokwang, i'm sure magngisi jud. some love stories mn sad pero i must admit that kasagaran jud sa mga love stories is so "OA".
