IW Moderator Foxhound has assured me that this thread will not be deleted. Please voice your opinion but obey the forum rules. This is the second **official** petition. We had over 250 pages of signatures on the original before the thread was deleted by IW Mods.

Today (10/17) Infinity Ward drove a heart thru Call of Duty lovers and PC Gamers everywhere when it was announced that there would be no dedicated servers or mod tools on Modern Warfare 2 for the PC version. After barely mentioning or promoting the PC version at all they broke their silence and informed us that they have "dumbed down" the PC experience and made it similar to xbox live. They have taken away many of the features we have come to expect and basically given us a console port that doesn't take advantage of the power and features of the PC Platform. What they may not realize is that this could well mean the end for Call of Duty Modders, Game Server Companies, the Competitive Community and the tight knit Clan System that has defined the PC community that most of us are a part of for many years. EA and others have tried similar things and failed miserably.

This petition is to let IW /Activision know that we PC gamers are a force to be reckoned with. Many of us also have consoles or consoles for our kids but we feel the best experience is with the PC with the features we have come to expect from FPS games and the Call of Duty Series. Putting these things we need will cost very little and will generate goodwill and maximize their sales. Hopefully they will see the benefits of keeping their PC consumers and customers happy.

This news is a giant leap backwards. It was PC gamers that made Call of Duty and Infinity Ward what it is today. It seems that there is not a champion at IW who knows what the PC experience should be and that is disheartening. Many innovations in the game today originally came from modders such as *PST*Joker and many others. Making the console version as feature rich as PC has made console games what they are. It used to be innovations came to the PC version and then they figured out how to put it in for the consoles. Console gamers are losing out here as well big time. If it weren't for PC COD would be single player console (cod 3?)game with no replayability. Its ironic that console players had a petition to get dedicated servers as some know its a better experience.

We are willing to delay the game or take a patch but please assure us that these features will be in the game. Please sign this post and let IW know how you feel by canceling your preorder.

***Update*** Just a day after the news was broken The Gaming Community has spoken

Ventrillo, IRC and Xfire chatrooms everywhere have been filled
Forum posts everywhere have been made, Twitters sent, Petitions started and signed, Articles written, Websites made, Podcasts broadcasted, You Tube Videos Created and best of all thousands of preorders have been canceled.

It is amazing how much has been done yet there is still more to do.

(hehe) Sorry I couldn't resist. Seriously though @vern, I think the issue is not bout Infinity Ward not providing dedicated servers, but more on forcing PC gamers to play in their so called 'IWNet matchmaking system'. So no more server list, nor you can create/host your own dedicated server... cycling only the maps and type of game mode you want to play.

One may argue that the previous Modern Warfare worked really well on the console and it's matchmaking, so Infinity Ward is just trying to follow that same system on the PC. Well yeah sure, but the PC crowd will always consider dedicated servers to be the backbone of PC multiplayer. They always want control and being able to tweak/mod things around. They want low latency as much as possible for that perfect sniping precision and accuracy. They like the idea of browsing through a server list first and then join the server that has the lowest ping. Changing all that all of a sudden is bit rough I reckon.

Anyhow, it will be interesting too see how this unfolds.

well. easy for them to say since they live in the US. they never thought about non US and non EU players. ive seen such a huge backlash from gaming communities from australia, south africa, korea,NZ, and i cant blame them. im glad my friends at fubar dropped their support too.

So you don't get your promod. Bohoo. People can still create private matches. People who just want to casually play ... can do so without the pressure of all these whiners.

All you pros can play something else. For the larger PAYING audience ... we can play and have FUN ... and not have to rely on your elitist dedicate servers ... and UNRELIABLE so-called "dedicated" servers.

you reside in the states. ever tried playing games like these when you were still here? it is difficult to find suitable lag free servers. even though they are already dedicated. now imagine those dedicated servers gone and you have to put up with P2P. ever tried playing L4D and you are randomly matched in an asian hosted game? i dont think so. you live in the states. majority of the players live in the states. when they play and do matchmaking, they will mostly get matched with US based players.

not the case in our country, sir. not the case in singapore, australia, south africa, thailand, new zealand, alaska, etc. i have friends there too because of dedicated servers and they too are pissed not really because our connectivity is nerfed to console standards but because of lag. not only do we have limited residential internet speeds, our latency with other countries is a joke.

i am not pro and i am absolutely not elitist. im tired of all this fanboy labeling. maybe my posts here will serve as a warning to our countrymen who plan to spend more than your $60 to play a game that can only be enjoyed through singleplayer in our country.

hope this clears things about what i think will happen. and i will not waste more than 3k pesos to test drive their new system. maybe we can wait for the reviews instead.

I'm wondering who made the decision on this? Was it Infinity Ward? Or was it Activition? If I recall correctly when the original Modern Warfare came out, some guy at Activition was complaining bout how there were lots of people on the PC side playing multiplayer with illegal copies of the game. So is this their way of combating it? I'm just interested to know.

I have to admit though, this game though not being out yet defintely has its share of controversies.

-There was the whole... taking out the Call of Duty brand, then they put it back again in fear of selling less.
-Then there's the uber pricetag on the standard edition. Believe it or not the RRP for the console version of the game here in NZ is round bout $150. That's bout $30-$40 more than the standard price. Now the game itself may warrant that price hike, I just don't like this to be a trend.
-Now this whole matchmaking system for the PC. Whethere it's for the best or not. I guess we'll find out.

Im no network engineer but EA's Battflefield: Bad Company has no lag. Even the host is from the Philippines & Im here @ the Eastern Seaboard of the U.S. - theres no lag. I dunno how EA pulled it off.

I just hope that IW/Activision will do what EA did to Bad Company..
