Exclamation DALMATIAN mom EATING OWN PUPPY ----A HUGE PROBLEM...WHY??? HELP

So heres the story. Our Dalmatian is actually half dalmatian half labrador retriever but more on the dalmatian side isya na pagkaliwat!! Anyway, shes already about 3-1/2 years old!! I also have a Yellow Labrador retriever n they 2 are not related. @ times nani akong dalmatian nanganak!! First litter batch was like 18 pups....NONE survived kay ge EAT niya tanan iya PUPS!!! As in OMG ming tanan ngano to sya!! We researched over the internet and ingun didto na maybe daw the Dalmatian mother is wla pa daw buot, she doesnt know what to do or she knows na ang batch of pups niya is a bad litter so mao na nga ge EAT nalang niya ang mga pups knowing nga NONE of it would really survive kay masakitun lage daw or whatever (Mother knows best daw kung baga).

So okay nisabot rami kay basin innocent pa siya or wala lagey buot pa!! But come to think of it, if manganak amung mga dachshund dayun ang pups sa mga dachshund mag duol2x niya...mura man sya ug mag yaya sa mga pups and even to the point of licking them and cleaning them and not EATING them!

So sa next litter batch niya...she had 14 pups this time!! But same thing happened!! Iya gehapon ge EAT iyang pups!!

    Ang akong question:

1.) Why is she behaving that way?
2.) I know its abnormal but why?
3.) Is there any solution to this problem?

We are hoping nga if ever she gives birth again, at least man lang naa syay kadungan na dog mu give birth para maoy mu surrogate mom sa iyang mga pups...but sa case na she gives birth to 18 pups is a very big prob pod!! So unsa man?? HELP Beah?? Anyone??

hi ts! saw this answer from another forum site..

    dog eating puppies?

A: We had a dalmatian couple where the female did that. She raised 10 litters or so that we were able to sell. Her last litter they seemed to vanish and we suspected that she ate them. She was a good mother up till then but was really protective and wouldn't let anyone even in the cage. We stopped breeding her and ended up putting her down for other reasons a year or so later. One questoin, do the pups and mother have a heat lamp above them? If the pups are dying the mother may be disposing of them the way nature intended. The best thing you can do is to take the pups away and keep them under a heat lamp and let them nurse at the mother under supervision. If you can get them to weaning age your in the clear. Keep them in a pen so they don't get taken off again by the mother. Thats the best advice I can give.

gud day!ur dog has what we call CANNIBALISM!this behavior is not specie specific, least of all not breed specific.carnivores in general does this behavior in their young,if:the area with which they give birth is very crowded, disturbing, uncomfortable, etc.presence of predatory animals or the young is dead when it came out,its a behavior of carnivores to consume its young to prevent would be predators to smell it,thus endangering the life of its littermates,or its really a behavioral problem mostly found among nervous, young animals mostly 'maidens'(1st tym to give birth).
the problem can be repeated or not,the next tym it gives birth.its either u intervene the next tym she gives birth for her not to get through its young again or dont breed ur dog again & for the most part, spay ur dog (female equivalent for castration) for her not to give birth again.
