Air Supply will forever be known as "that cheesy soft rock band". But beyond their "now baduy" hits, are some great albums and tunes.
The first 3 albums of Air Supply from 1976 to 1979 are artistically great. They were 6 piece bnack then and even featured lead vocals by bassist
Jeremy Paul.
Then from 1980 to 1994, they abandoned their artsy music and intelligent theme in favor of pop stardom. Then in 1995, they returned to their intelligent rootsy/folksy sound with the album
News from Nowhere which featured only 2 love songs (one of them is the remake of Unchained Melody). Most are social commentary and spiritually tinged themed.
I owned 3 air Supply cassettes and i'm glad i did buy News From Nowhere. I dunno where are the other tapes now (Greatest Hits and Heart in Motion from 1984) but i still have the News From Nowhere here with me and still plays it from time to time. Can't find the CD version though.
Just an advice: Please don't buy any Air Supply Greatest Hits because none of them represents the band's arty period. Not even that double disc Cd with parachute on the cover.
If you like today's modern bands like Midlake, Fleet Foxes, Cuff The Duke, and James Iha (the solo stuff not the pumpkins or perfect circle) please give the first 3 Air Supply albums and News From Nowhere.
However if you want the pop version Air Supply then u can always have their whole 80s career...
