before he became an actor, his main goal was to become a rock musician. eventually it didn't blow although his band Rock City Angels almost did it.

However in 2007, his first band The Kids reunited for a show and here's the video:

I believe Johnny still performs live every now and then at his own club called Largo jamming with other regular musicians there like Nickel Creek, Watson's Family Hour, Fernando Ortega, Glen Phillips (of TOad The Wet Sprocket), etc..

and recently those musicians playing at Largo decided to form a supergroup and named themselves Works Progress Admiration which includes members of Nickel Creek, Ricky Skaggs and The Kentucky Thunders, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and Toad The Wet Sprocket

He had a song writing credits on the Oasis album "What's The Story, Morning Glory'. playing the slide guitar. kalimot ko sa title.
In the 80's he was a struggling musician before starring in a lead role n the tv show 21 Jump Street.

As a guitar player, Depp has recorded a solo album, played slide guitar on the Oasis song "Fade In-Out" (from Be Here Now, 1997), as well as on "Fade Away (Warchild Version)" (b-side of the "Don't Go Away" single). As well, he played acoustic guitar in the movie Chocolat and on the soundtrack to Once Upon a Time in Mexico. He is a friend of The Pogues' Shane MacGowan, and performed on MacGowan's first solo album. As well, he was a member of P, a group featuring Butthole Surfers singer Gibby Haynes and Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea. He has appeared in Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers' music video "Into the Great Wide Open".
