Thread: WiFi Dilemma

    Default WiFi Dilemma

I was playing around with my wireless notebook last weekend when I found out that one of my neighbors has a WiFi network with no security on it what-so-ever. No password was required to get into it so were talking bout FREE internet here. I was also able to log in to their 3Com wireless router (using default passwords) so I can pretty much change whatever I want.

What do you think I should do?

a.) Ignore it. Pretend their WiFi network isn't there, and don't use it as well. It's none of my business anyway.
b.) Use it and leech like hell. Imagine the possibilities, I can be playing online with my own dsl connection, while I'll be downloading porn using their FREE WiFi network.
c.) Be a good citizen and actually tell them bout their unsecured setup and teach them how it should be.

brod, para nako mas maau imong sulti-an imong silingan, then tudlo-i sila unsa-on pag secure sa ilang wireless maski WEP lang. kay basin pa diay hatagan ka nila ug access sa ilang wireless route. so limpyo na imong konsensya free internet pa..... kung dili sila hatag, at least limpyo imong konsensya......

Tell your neighbor. Just because it's free for the taking doesn't mean you should take it.

that's right, I agree, honesty is the best policy. go ahead tell your neighbor if you know who owns that Wi Fi connection, but if not, just leave it as it is and resist the urge of connecting thru their network.

the reason why I gave you that advice is that I'm in a totally different scenario, my case: living in an apartment complex where there's about 16-20 wireless networks i could pick up at any given time with 3-6 of them unsecured. "telling your neighbor" is not that easy, at least in my case, 'coz a stranger knocking on every door is a big no-no where I'm at. the thought of trying to help your hapless neighbor is laudable but please consider the situation and look at the bigger picture before making a judgement call.
Shut Up! Let your GAME do the talking!

Thanks guys. Yeah I should do the right thing and tell them bout it.
I actually didn't know who the wireless network belonged to at first. But since I was able to login to their wireless router's web based configuration, I looked up the DHCP client list and there it was.... they named one of their computers as their family surname. I will pay them a visit this weekend. I just couldn't be bothered during weekdays since I come home late from work.
