Default male stereotyping of women: can we eliminate it?

Although it would be fair to say that not all men stereotype women, it is also true that much discrimination and generalization of women's characters still exists today. Despite apparent women's liberation. many men, and even some women themselves, further female gender stereotyping by not challenging it, or by supporting it in some form. The ridicule and belittlement of women by men may well be due to a lack of respect for women's roles. Until this is changed women will continue to be made fun of in jokes that mock their *** and will be regarded by some men as being inferior.
I got something to share and i qouted it here...

"To totally eliminate the stereotyping of women would be a tall order, but we can definately go some way towards making improvements by teaching the next generation of males that women are worth as much as men and so should afford the same respect."

"One reason why male stereotyping exists is because the blind seem to follow the blind in this area. Men make sexist jokes and comments about women and are rewarded for doing so by other men. Again, this type of behaviour needs to be nipped in the bud when males are still able to comprehend that a different world is possible where women are not seen as items of fun or merely as sexual objects."

I am not suggesting that we live in a world where general good humor is lost and where flirting in a playful verbal manner is banished. I suggest only that the types of references to women that leave them being seen as worthless, apart from as pitiful cleaners of mess or as male entertainment are abandoned in favor of genuine humor where women can be viewed as being equal to men.

This practiced in some other countries, but not here in the Philippines, I could completely discern that both the status of men and women is completely equal here, sometimes friendly gestures such as green jokes that could be characterized as humor is misinterpreted as humiliating, but it should not be meant as such for this things colors our life, it can contribute a lot of color if your day is gray, it is benificial for both. Serious Coutship is another thing, being friendly also is another thing, we should classify things as what it is and it's true purpose.

mao jud.. dapat basahon nya sabton ni sa mga guys ai...
for me, just for me lang.. don't allow yourself to be treated as worthless, apart from as pitiful cleaners of mess or as male entertainment, how you regard yourself, how you respect it will radiate from inside out. know your self worth this way, you can stand up and say hey, i am more worthy than you think i am so please treat me well. whatever men can do, women can, and we can do much more, with grace and power

you guys both have your points...but come to think of it,even though naa ubn na dli applicable dri sa ato,but we cnt help the fact that sooner or later,we might adopt such behavior because of the influence of westerners or could be sa other countries...gender bias is quite obvious na now a days..we might not realize it but its there...

As of now, we cant do much about it for the general public tend to stereotype not only women, but almost in all facets of life. They tend to follow the cliche, the path of the social norms.

I know its a bit unfair to stereotypes us women, but we demand equal rights.

For example, a large percentage of world's population who plays videogames are done by males.
(Nakit an lang ko by some guys playing a psp game *monster hunter freedom unite*, they instantly rate me as "tomboy" or "weird".)

They expect women to act like women from the old ages, those times where females are nothing more but typical housewives.
