Although it would be fair to say that not all men stereotype women, it is also true that much discrimination and generalization of women's characters still exists today. Despite apparent women's liberation. many men, and even some women themselves, further female gender stereotyping by not challenging it, or by supporting it in some form. The ridicule and belittlement of women by men may well be due to a lack of respect for women's roles. Until this is changed women will continue to be made fun of in jokes that mock their *** and will be regarded by some men as being inferior.
I got something to share and i qouted it here...
"To totally eliminate the stereotyping of women would be a tall order, but we can definately go some way towards making improvements by teaching the next generation of males that women are worth as much as men and so should afford the same respect."
"One reason why male stereotyping exists is because the blind seem to follow the blind in this area. Men make sexist jokes and comments about women and are rewarded for doing so by other men. Again, this type of behaviour needs to be nipped in the bud when males are still able to comprehend that a different world is possible where women are not seen as items of fun or merely as sexual objects."
I am not suggesting that we live in a world where general good humor is lost and where flirting in a playful verbal manner is banished. I suggest only that the types of references to women that leave them being seen as worthless, apart from as pitiful cleaners of mess or as male entertainment are abandoned in favor of genuine humor where women can be viewed as being equal to men.
