    Default Off Camera Flash Solution

Hi all, could not find a dedicated thread on this.

I would like to get advice on what you all use for off camera wireless flash control. How reliable they are, future proof, and the most bang for buck of course.

I hear a lot of praise for units like the Pocket Wizards, AlienBees, etc but those are a little out of my budget for now. The Cactus units are more the price range i was looking at but they seem to be very unreliable.

I'm also looking for good shoot through umbrellas, softboxes, and all the accessories (stands, mounts, etc..) for a 2 flash setup. Please fell free to recommend and post here. Thanks in advance.

Cactus triggers are good enough if you dont intend to use if for commercial purposes (i.e weddings, fashion) The only problem with these is the contact with the flash units, that is why they dont fire. you can have it tightened at Allen's camera repair shop (in front of Colonade)

Yongnuo CTR-301P is doing pretty well for me.

flashwaves is also a good alternative. tested it at the grand ballroom of the waterfront hotel, from corner to corner (around +/- 30 meters, no misfires.)

there are lots of RF triggers now in the market, some are of the same appearance yet different branding while others are newer versions (ex: generic pt04 and pt04IS, Cactus v2s & v4, Phottix, YongNuo) which are China made. they might not be compatible with the flash you're going to use so i suggest you do some research, or better yet test them from the shops.

as Sir Benjie suggested, flashwaves are definitely your best bet if you'll be using them for commercial use. they're made in korea (which are more reliable than the china made ones)

motownkid, bildo ug unyas - checked those links, nindot kaayo and learning a lot.

ok so 2 of you suggested the Yongnuo CTR-301P units. I can find them in Manila but the store selling it is out of stock till the 14th of August. Any other alternatives?

pnoize - are the flashwave units available locally? price range?

Can you list or recommend other models i should consider? kanang available pud nato dri Cebu.

Salamat sa info. Another flashwave recommendation.

Still doing research at the moment. As soon as i get leads locally on availability of the units you talk of, i will give the shops a visit and test personally.
