i think in other coutries, murag mag depende na kung kinsay mas dako ug sweldo sa couple. kung ang babaye ang bread winner, ang guy mao mo dala sa apilyedo sa girl. i just forgot where i read it though, so dont quote me on that one

i will answer this question in my capacity as a lawyer. when a woman gets married, she is NOT OBLIGED to use the surname of her husband. under the law, she actually has three options:
1. use her husband's surname and drop her surname (e.g. Gloria Arroyo)
2. retain her surname and add her husband's surname (e.g. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo). Macapagal
s Gloria's surname and Arroyo is Mike's surname;
3. use her husband's name and surname and entirely drop her name, but adding the prefix "Mrs."
(e.g. Mrs. Mike Arroyo), this is usual in Great Britain
4. retain her maiden name (e.g. Gloria Macapagal)

Remember that what is used in the law is the word "MAY", thus the woman is NOT OBLIGATED to adopt the husband's surname. She has a choice / option, the Supreme Court said.
