    Default Ultracold Physics

Hello fellow science admirers! I'd like to share something since I am going to be working on this topic for my thesis next year. Altough this newsletter is old, the topic is still very very hot. hehe=)

    Here is an except:

The Hottest Field in Physics Is Ultracold

Once you catch an atom, you can do quite a lot with it. You can make a powerful computer, track infinitesimally small changes in gravity, even model the big bang.

A very interesting resource about Bose-Einstein Condensates.

Hello fellow istoryan science fans! I've recently been knocking myself dead for my thesis literature survey. Anyway, I'd like to share what I've done so far. It's entitled, "Ultracold Quantum Gases, Quantum Optics meets Condensed Matter Physics."
Here is the link for the file.
    LiteratureSurveyDiorico_semifinalcopy.pdf

The theory part may be a bit to technical but the introduction in the beginning and summary in the end will be more than enough to provide interesting information about ultracold physics.

PS: On a rare occasion where you are going to read all of it and you will find mistakes, comments, criticisms and corrections are very much welcome.

Hello again! hehe I found a very interesting development in this field. It appears that they are planning on making a Bose-Einstein Condensate (BEC) in space to test for Einstein's general relativity. More here. =D

    is this connected with cryogenics?

Not really. Cryogenics deals with traditional refrigeration methods. While this field involved laser cooling and trapping of atoms. Atoms or Molecules are cooled down to the lowest possible temperature with in the nanoKelvin regime. That is incredibly cold, no other place in the universe can be that cold that in the labs of these physicists. hehehe! Laser cooling and coupled with magneto-optical trapping techniques go beyond what refrigeration does. It literally stops the motion of atoms where they just stand still. It's really amazing.

can this possibly preserve life? i mean can they freeze an animal then store it for a certain period of time then take it out and let it live again?
