there were unconfirmed reports btaw jd that there will be such a competion that will be held here...anyone who has a green gas blow back pistol can join...however, some GBB pistol owners are doing their own practical shooting drills at home...
tagpila man sad neng green gas blow back pistol?
kanang TM hicapa 5.1 nga pistol pila man ang usual price ane?
is there any update or at least even practice shoots with APS (airsoft practical shooting)?
nindot ni mga bros para magamit gyud ato mga pistols... pls update if there's any APS....
The two topics at AFOCebu about this matter have not been updated since late May, 2009. I believe the reasons behind this are the following:
a) People who are coming in from real steel practical shooting circles might not be familiar with the operation (hence, limitations, etc.) of airsoft GBB pistols
b) People who are coming in from airsoft might not be familiar with the rules and regulations for practical shooting.
c) Because of reasons a and b, there have been attempts to have a meeting to come up with a set of rules and seminars/briefings esp. for those unfamiliar with the rules and regulations for real steel practical shooting competitions, and for some reasons, these meetings either don't happen, or that a lot of issues crop up along the way (one of which I will mention as "d").
d) There needs to be a distinction between "competition grade" airsoft GBB pistols and standard airsoft GBB pistols. These two photos will help clarify this:
This is a standard airsoft Sig Sauer P226
This is a competition airsoft Sig Sauer
As you can see, an airsoft pistol souped up for competition is not exactly at par with a stock airsoft pistol, which is why rules have to be established and so on, such as class of pistol used during the competition, etc.

there are categories where the stock airsoft pistol can take part of the competion, either standard or production. the 2nd photo belongs to the open category for IPSC (Internation Practical Shooting Confederation). as you can see, almost all types of pistols can join APS using IPSC ruling. Distinction can be defined by modifications done to the pistol, as defined in the IPSC handbook.
As for getting people together, well..yeah, it's been a problem ever since. even back when i first introduced airsoft practical shooting at Kamagong Firing Range back in the early part of 2004.
As for real steel shooters coming in, I think it's just a matter of inviting them over to an APS range and letting them try the "stage". I'm sure they'll find it interesting. I already have a few names in mind who'd love to try it.
what i find limiting is the expense required to adhere to IPSC rulings. As holsters and mag pouches used in typical airsoft games are not allowed in practical shooting. And practical shooting holsters will burn a hole in pocket. Also, the availability of magazines sold locally may also be a problem as there are courses that require a magazine change.
i'd like to see things move before i buy a new pistol for APS. I wonder if Justin's airsoft shop carries them.
Nice info there Pnoize. Thing is, most of those who post and express interest in this, in airsoft fora in and outside of Cebu, don't have much background info re IPSC, and perhaps assume that it will just be some simple marksmanship exercise involving their pistols and target sheets. So I think the key issue here is education and information drive on both sides of the fence (airsoft and real steel). A meeting for all enthusiasts would be nice, esp. when talking about IPSC standards, and also the expected expenses one can potentially incur should he/she decides to take this hobby/sport to another level.
