2 gig + 1gig memory installed together

different memory sizes with different speeds can even run dual channel. this is called flexmode. an example would be given 2 memory with the same speed but different sizes (1 x 1GB, 1 x 2GB) on dual channel, the 1GB of the 2GB memory will be used to dual-channel while the remaining memory will be on single channel. this largely depends on the chipset that is installed.

for the most part they may work harmoniously. naa chance nga even with the same speed, they may cause instability because of memory timings and voltages.
