dc Talk were (on hiatus now) a vocal trio band. They didn't play their instrument which is unique for a rock band although they started out as hiphop group incorporating rock on their Free At Last album and goin full circle as a rock vocal trio on Jesus Freak and Supernatural.
dc Talk is being backed by a band called
Zilch lead by Mark Townsend on guitar and Jason Halbert on keys. zilch did released several albums of their own but it wans't until 1999 when they decided to make a worship rock record titled Sonicflood which later the band decided it sounds very different from previous zilch materials and so they dropped the name Zilch and released the album under the name
SONICFLOOd (early fans were still calling that CD a Zilch album coz they thought not putting the name Zilch on the cover sleeve was part of the art work)
Then
SONICFLOOd had some internal misunderstanding, decided to call it quits.. But then there are still tour sked left and new bassist
Rick Heil (formerly of
BIG TENT REVIVAL) felt sorry to those who already bought tickets in advance, so he decided to form a new band under the name SONICFLOOd while at the same time fighting legal battle n court so he could have full ownership of the name..
i dunno where are the original SONICFLOOd/ZILCH members now. I know Jeff Deyo still releasing solo materials and recently hav a movie called The Impostor with co-star Kevin Max of DC TALK.
Jason Halbert now plays with Kelly Clarkson also serving as her musical director while playing at TobyMac (of dc Talk) when not touring with Clarkson.
The current line up of SONICFLOOd now are bunch of session musicians with Rick Heil as the only constant member (yep those SONICFLOOd who came here last year were session musicians. bassist Tracy Ferrie plays with STRYPER and STRANGE CELEBRITY, guitar player Q played with STRANGE CELEBRITY, JESSICA SIMPSON, and BRAD PAISLEY)
