Apparently there have been rumors circulating around the internet and community forums that Intel will discontinue a few models of their fastest processor chips on the market, the Intel i7 line up. The models which will be put out of production will be the Core i7 920 and 940. The Core i7 950 will replace the 940 and a new processor will be released next week, the 970, which will replace the current 965 on the market.
Therefore, Intel will be eliminating a processor chip, the 920, in the i7 Core Series which was reasonably priced for budget users at $300 (P15,000). This is a strategic plan for Intel as they will be launching the new and lower end processor, i5 Core Series. Once a user purchases the i5 Core Series, they’ll end up purchasing the i7 Core chip with a new motherboard and ram as Intel hasn’t licensed the chipset to any of the third party manufacturers at the moment.
