Exclamation PLDT: Legacy vs IP Node Structures

I got off the phone with PLDT a few minutes ago and I found out some interesting information after I filled a report regarding the slow internet connection I was getting a few hours ago (I couldn't access several international websites). Anyway, I'm currently on the MyDSL Personal Plan which costs about P1995, however, I'm paying P2,272. I guess it's some billing issues I have to take care of.

According to the technical representative on the phone I am still on the old node structure called "Legacy" (subscribers who signed up a few years ago) and that my maximum download speed I'll be able to get would be 1.6mb/s compared to the 3.0mb/s on the newer node structure "IP". Thats double the speed!

I'll be visiting the PLDT Mobolo office tomorrow and I'll ask them to migrate my service to the newer IP node system.

If you wish you can call up either the Mobolo or Jones PLDT office to confirm the status of your current node.

I dedicated a whole article on my blog relating the difference between the "Legacy" and "IP" node systems of PLDT and my experience with one of the local techinical support personel.

Anyone here on the new "IP" node? How's it so far?

adsl(their so called legacy) - their most stable. matured configuration and fully patched equipment.

adsl(their ip dslam) - quite stable as well. patches have been applied. and might still have additional patches

    adsl2+(ngn wannabe) - ^^

    -------

    gbb - another adsl2+ - louder ^^

Do you think it's wise for me to migrate to the IP node?

And what does ngn mean? Pardon my ignorance.

    NGN means Next Generation Nextwork.
NGN is capable of "3-in-1', voice, video and data, but NOT here with PLDT... just 2-in-1 (voice/data).
NGN is much better than ipdslam or legacy.

since youre paying such cost, it should be "wiser" to maximized it. anyway, server and terminal equipments might be stable but cables wont be due to natural factors.

    refer to softtouch's reply.

I just came back from PLDT Mobolo. I only upgraded to the "IP" node as I would have to change my home number if I had to go for the "NGN".

Additionally, PLDT has plans in trying out "Triple Play" later on this year. This includes voice, data and video over one line of cable. See here for more details.

PLDT also has plans in moving everyone to the new NGN node within the next two years!
