100-hours of Astronomy in Cebu City - Ayala Terraces, April 4, 6:00 pm

The USC Astronomical Society, led by Christopher Go, and the Cebu Amateur Astronomy Association (CA3, composed mostly of iStoryan amateur Astronomers) will be holding a public telescope viewing at 6:00 pm tonight, at the Ayala Terraces. This is in line with the ongoing world-wide activity known as 100-Hours of Astronomy... Welcome to 100 Hours of Astronomy ...in celebration of the 400th anniversary of Galileo's first use of the telescope to look at objects in the night sky.

This event is being held simultaneously with other astronomy groups in the Philippines and the whole world.

If you want to see the moon up close, or planet Saturn, we have about 4-5 telescopes available for public use. This is an absolutely FREE activity, all you need to bring is the zeal for knowledge and interest in the sciences.

@gospel you should have dropped by, we were there until 10:30PM...actually, from 6:00-7:00 bati ang sky, very cloudy, in fact I was fearing that people will be disappointed, but after 7pm, the sky cleared up (kung kay Divemaster pa "Gamhanan dyud siguro ni si Chris no? Kay nawala man dyud ang clouds, like he predicted!" ) and we served about 1,000 people last night

Just stand by. Depending on the availability of our members, the Cebu Amateur Astronomy Association (CA3) might do another one soon (probably May 2009).

I really enjoy watching people's reactions when seeing the craters of the moon up close for the first time, or seeing the rings of Saturn. I've got lots of stories about people's reactions and musings during the event, will probably place them in my iStorya blog later.
