SELF-proclaimed anti-graft crusader (kuno) Crisologo Saavedra claimed that the media has abandoned him in his advocacy against corruption. This, following the settlement of the libel case Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia filed against ABS-CBN news anchor and Freeman columnist Leo Lastimosa. Saavedra felt he was betrayed by the broadcast journalist. Saavedra was a regular guest on Leo’s program where he would castigate Gwen over the alleged overpricing of the construction of the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC).
Saavedra suspects Leo will abandon the latter’s crusade demanding full accounting of CICC expenses following last week’s meeting with the governor that included me and other radio commentators. He feared that Leo may have already joined the “corrupt group,” when the commentator smoked the proverbial peace pipe with the lady governor.
I have to make it clear that I don’t want to meddle in the recent conflict between Leo and Saavedra. That’s their problem. What I want to point out here is the claim of Saavedra that the media has abandoned him.
What media and “corrupt group” are you referring to, Mr. Saavedra? Name them because there are several media-men in Cebu. Did the entire media in Cebu support your crusade? No. I did not support you because I knew from the start what you were up to? Did dyHP topnotch commentator lawyer Rufil Bañoc and Freeman columnist Bobit Avila also support you? No.
Rufil even lambasted you in his program that’s why you filed libel charges against him. You even wanted him disbarred.
At the height of the CICC and lamppost controversies, you kept calling my station because you wanted to be a guest in my radio program. You even told our technician to tell me that you are my kababayan from Zamboanga City. But I did not accommodate your request because I didn’t want you to use me to further you personal agenda. But you somehow managed to successfully use and deceive the media to advance your personal interest.
I think it’s time we unmask Mr. Saavedra. Stop projecting yourself as an anti-graft crusader because you are not. You are not a real whistleblower as you claimed. You are a fake anti-graft crusader and a carpetbagger. Why do I say that?
First, you were just sourgraping when you filed cases against the PNP and DPWH officials over the spy camera. You participated in the bidding and won, but the agencies concerned did not accept your items because these did not comply with specifications. You sued them, claiming they rescinded your contract because you did not succumb to their demand of a 15-percent commission. Oh come on, tell that to the dead marines in Mindanao not to the people of Cebu, Señor Cris.
You mean that in your entire life as a contractor and supplier you have never given kickbacks to the project’s initiators? I remember you said in a forum that you used to give commissions and bribe government officials so you could get contracts.
As for the issues concerning the overpriced decorative lampposts and the CICC, you just joined the fray. But what surprised me was your selective stand on the deco issue. You wanted to pin down former Mandaue City mayor Teddy Ouano but you cleared Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Arturo Radaza from any wrongdoing when they committed the same violations. How much did Radaza pay you to change your stand? You filed baseless charges against airport officials because you could not participate in any bidding at the MCIAA because of your dismal track record.
How much did you demand from businessman Efrain Pelaez Jr., when you volunteered to file graft charges against Radaza over the computer scam? You demanded P1 million as contingency fund and you set conditions. You volunteered to personally file the case before the ombudsman provided you hang on to the documents and you face the media.
Was that extortion? Pelaez kept your text messages and had these authenticated with the NTC, Señor Cris.
Now you’re sad and lonely because Mr. Lastimosa and the media have abandoned your crusade. I would like to suggest Señor Cris that you go to one of the bridges in Mactan. You already know what to do once you’re there. Just see to it that there are no sharks in the water before you jump. O, mas bueno pa vulve to na Zambonga, alla tu man suicide. Intiende tu, Señor Cris?
