another great FMA... practioners and enthusiasts, hop on
any thoughts about Kuntaw? It may have get into mainstream karate, but Kuntaw is a totally different discipline.. it is as effective to other martial arts like karate, taekwondo etc... i just hope that the Kuntaw practioners will do their best to bring back the identity of Kuntaw again.. like the use of Red pants with the upper uniform...
Isn't this the same indigenous martial arts nurtured by the Tausugs of Sulu?
basically it is... however, the modern form of Kuntaw is codified by Carlito Lanada Sr., whos grandfather is a tausug. His grandfather settled in Bicol some years back and the art was passed on to the family members. If you go to Bicol area, specially to Naga City in Cam Sur, Albay and Sorsogon areas, Kuntaw is vastly popular there...
in fact there is. The Kuntaw ng Pilipinas- Cebu Chapter is based at the University of the Visayas. Sadly, its Chief Instructor, Guro Ronquillo died a few months ago. However, his senior students are continuing the propagation to make sure that the art lives on. Practice is still being held regularly at the University of the Visayas Main Campus.
Congrats to Kuntaw Cebu for the successful holding of their Annual Kuntaw Seminar conducted by Master Carlito Lanada Jr last May 16- 17, 2009....
its nice to see the Kuntawistas in their red pants again...
