Default is 500w psu enough for corei7?

hi, i plan to buy a psu for a corei7 setup.

i dont have plans to spend more than 5k yet on a psu.

looking at that price range, i see there
are 500w-560w (silversone, coolermaster, odin, corsair).
some of them have the "SLI" logo

i do have plans, to go SLI/crossfire later.
im just worried it might not be enough?

Im simply considering - Silverstone ST50F 500wts (then upgrade later if i decided to go SLI/Crossfire).

    on full tower setup
    around 3-5fans
    3xddr3 ram
    1 - vga 9800gtx or ati 4870
and oh... the corei7 requirement is at least 2 12volts line.

so question - is 500ws enough for corei7? are there new type psu's?

Buy higher than 500watts with SLI capable.

yes it is, so long as it is true -rated 500W... but i dont think you can find any 500W with 2x12V rails... SLI n CFX? do not. not even GTX-series..

bro, i wouldnt recommend this setup, honestly. ure PSU would propably be on its 90%+, considering ang imoha cards, and other HDDs, opticals, fans. Means, dali mamatay at the same time, loud fan music, hehehe. the safest is AT LEAST A 600W true-rated PSU.

yes, pwede ra ang ST50F (dual 12V rail), pero ayaw lang i SLi or Crossfire..core i7 920 power consumption is around 85 watts. But if you're planning to SLi or crossfire in the future, better invest for a higher wattage PSU...

Update lang ko naay 1000watts na PSU. possible ba makaya ang 500watts na AVR ? or you have to buy another AVR na 1000watts.

So far sa akong natestingan... AVR 500watts pwede cya sa 550w & 600w PSU. Mao ni mga componets below naka taod sa mga psu's

    4 Sata HDD
    1 Optical Drive
    4 chassis fans
    1 SLI vid card.

KAmo naka sulay namo ani sila? please post this thread thanks.

pwede ra man siguro sir, unless your system is 1000 watts pod ang total power consumed. It doesn't mean man nga 1000 watts imong PSU 1000 watts pod ang iyang consumption, depende ra man na if pila total power consumption sa imong PC & if taas ang efficiency rate sa imong PSU, gamay ra nga wattage ang ma waste due to heat. Depende pod na sa AVR sir, if kadto servo type sukol jud to. then naa pod to overload protection...

murag - HEC Zephyr 750w ra man ang within budget.

according to eXtreme Power Supply Calculator Lite v2.5
i only need 450 watts for single vga.
    550 for dual
650 for quad and high end video cards.

@ jiro, yes bro, u actually just need those wattage requirements as per specs imo gi-state. just dont forget to have the percent buffer para imo PSU wont have to run at 100% all the time. 15% is ok.
