    One major difference is the Plug and Play feature of most OS on hardware devices. USB Devices including USB mouse can take advantage of this feature, those devices can be automatically detected and be used even when your already running the OS unlike PS2 Devices that needs to be plug in before booting up the computer for it to be detected.

    PS2 mouse are just as good as the USB, most importantly make sure to chose the optical mouse rather than the trackball mouse.

    Technically USB is far more superior compared to a PS/2 port specialy on high grade mices like Logitech G5 / G7 and Razer Diamond Bacl and Copperhead as they use a very high pooling rate and response time including data path

    USB uses the following for a mice;
    500hz Poolingrate for wireless / 1,000Hz for corded
    2ms Response time for wireless / 1ms for corded
    16bit data path for both wireless and corded

    on a PS/2 you can only get a Max of 125hz and thru software hacks and just a little more system resources you can increase it to 500hz poolingrate but still limited to a 8bit/12bit data path and a max response time of 12ms

    but if you are just using an ordinary mouse then its fine to use a PS/2 port.Most of the generic mouse karon always comes with a USB to PS/2 converter.
