Default 2.5 Sata to desktop sata (SOLVED) chk it out

I supposed there's no thread before this one.

Anyone here proved that a 2.5 sata drive (aka. laptop drive) will work fine in a desktop computer? using its own power line for sata harddrives.

AFAIK the SATA data connector will work fine, how about the power? 3.5 sata harddrives may both uses 12v+ and 5v+ the rest are ground... 2.5 SATA harddisks only requires 5v+

so guys how would this bE? would we end up with a fried drive doing that?

much better if those guys who did two times and more can post here their setup. :P

been reading from other sites/forums... but seems like tunga2x ang mga idea sa tawo.

as to the size, also i think power consumption of mobile harddisks are more efficient than of desktop.. though there may be a little performance difference, considering mobile hd spins only at 5400rpm. for me its really unnoticeable in some instances.

ive tried external enclosure and using it as a portable hard drive but never tried using it in a desktop before.

i honestly think it could fry the HDD since it requires little power compared to its desktop counterpart unless the HDD can regulate its own voltage for such it will fry, but then again i have no real experience on such lol and i never thought if such either. but good luck

if it doesnt fry let me know

tried it... just removed the yellow voltage rail going to the mobil hd... okay ra kaayo. works like a charm, cool and quiet, energy efficient.

    CONCLUSION:
mobile HDD will work on desktop motherboard, native SATA!. for safety, remove/cut the 12v+ line going to the mobile harddisk. SATA interface and SATA power goes the same way.

    it will work

i've seen a lot of hdd conversion kits
which have mounting brackets also to mount it to 3.5 mounting bay
