Teaching your dog to come on command can be challenging but with patience and effort you can teach your dog this very useful command.
It is important to teach your dog how to come to you when you call because this can be useful when your dog is off the leash.
To start place a long leash on your dog, make sure the leash is about a couple of feet long so your dog can run in front of you. Now take a ball and throw it so your dog runs to get it, when your dog comes back give him some treats and praise it.
After playing fetch for a while, now you can make a small change. Throw the ball and as your dog runs to pick it up gently bring your dog to a stop with the leash. Don't tug to hard, just gently make your dog stop before reaching the ball.
At this point your dog will be searching for the ball and while it is doing so begin to call your dog COME! Call your dog several times until it responds to your command. At first you dog may ignore you but have patience and keep calling your dog.
When you dog starts running back towards your command give it a treat and lots of appraisals. Now repeat these steps over and over until your dog starts to understand to come on your command.
This is an easy and great way to teach your dog to come on command.
