right click on ur desktop, arrange icons and see if the show desktop icons is checked.

i also had this problem with my windows XP. what things did you touch before this happened? kasi in my case i wanted to change my MY COMPUTER and MY DOCUMENTS icon. i downloaded an icon pack which should be opened with stardock thingy. but i dont have it so instead i used tuneup utilities. it didnt work so i used the manual change option. i changed it one by one and after changing the FOLDERS icon all icons in my desktop is messed up. they are gone even in the start menu. what i did is to restart my PC and hola! the icons are restored

i ctrl+alt+del (click start task manager kung vista imo gamit) then click File>Run type "explorer"

XP na imo bro or Vista, posible sad na naay BHO files ka na na delete..
