huh? i think it depends upon the target system... of course you would go for programmable and can be reprogram, have internal flash or eeprom, than can be erased number of times. or if you want you can consider its memory and architecture CISC/RISC... again, it depends upon the system, especially if you are dealing some reasonable amounts of current to drive your transistors, led, etc... just same as your parallel port in your PC, only around 5V, 2.6 mA.

I think Mark is right..It depends on the application as well as the system requirement..

I also do microcontroller projects..I use PIC microcontrollers..
