im planning on buying a radeon 4850 but it has a pcie 2.0 feature. which my mboard does not have.

my mboard btw is ASUS P5SD2-VM pwede kaha ni sa ati 4850?

in rare cases, naa mga mobo(kara-an) na nga dili mosugot ug pcie2.0 vcard on their pcie slot...dili mo display...but in most cases ok ra gyud...

you mean would you PCIEx16 1.1 accept a PCIEx16 2.0 card? yes of course it will run. but it will run at 1.1 speed and not 2.0, but not to worry it will still perform great. just not at its maximum capacity. and also buying a 2.0 card is for futureproof in case you upgrade your mobo you will have a 2.0 card already

if you're worried about pin configuration there are no changes sa pcie 2.0 from pcie 1.1.

i'll give you an example, my 9800GT is pcie 2.0 compliant inserted into a pcie slot sa akong mobo which can only support pcie 1.1. this is called full-backwards compatibility.
