While driving, is it safe to shift to neutral so that you can move forward using just the momentum?
Can you do this with manual and automatic transmissions?
Does this damage the engine or other parts of the vehicle?
Thanks.

yes, you can do that but it is not a safe practice. not that it can damage any vehicle part but your brake pads get worn a little fast comparatively. i rather be on the safe side. it is because you will get a better braking performance when the vehicle is engaged than neutral. ymmv.
ok raman na as long as dili lang kaau downhill.. dili mana mka guba ug makina.. hehe kas lng jd brake.. hehe pro pra lang na sa veterans kay kung bag.o pka lisod i timing..
I normally do that everytime i reached the top of the 2nd mactan bridge inorder to save fuel but make sure your break is on A-one condition and that you've maintain a safe distance on the car in front of you.
if you're travelling at less than 40 kph then it is relatively safe to put your car into neutral. however, i still advise against this. but if you're going fast please always put your car into gear just in case worse comes to worst. If you want to save on gas then you can just put it into the highest possible gear within your speed range and not step on the pedal. always drive safe my friend.
save life first.....then save gas....hehehe...pero it's possible... even with auto tranny...
i do it all the time wid an a/t camry... but if manual na downhill i do not advise...engine brake gyud ako gamiton....
i usually go neutral, but now, il use the engine brake para maka save sa brakeplates, para d mahilis,., hehe!! its all good)
