It's one hell of a first episode. Cool fight sequences.

Sure, the designs are old school, but the lines are clean and coupled with fact that it's available in HD, it looks so sweet, it's sinful.

    hee. Episode 2!!

Isteb’s Fall 2008 Anime Season Reviews
    Title: Casshern Sins
    Genre: Action/Sci-fi

Ugh! I’m trying to make my way past all the new shows this season. I’m giving the more critically acclaimed shows a chance and decide which one I’m going to follow for this season.

I already wrote a review for tales of the abyss episode 1, you can find it here.

    CASSHERN SINS

Though others may consider this as Casshan Reloaded, no prior viewing experience is necessary to enjoy this show. Set in a dystopian world, the story is about Casshern who has supposedly killed Luna, leader of the robots or something like it. As the robots fear for their lives, they try to devour Casshern, somehow having the notion that doing so will save them from further decay. For Casshern, every day is a battle for survival.

The first episode doesn't reveal much as far as story is concerned; that will most likely be the job of episode 2. It will have to reveal just what the hell is going on around here or risk losing viewers. But frankly I won't mind seeing more action in the next episode, since Madhouse pulled out all the stops here, making the designs look authentically old-school and made a dystopian world hauntingly beautiful. It looks even better in HD.

There are hints as to where this series will go, one of them being the scene where Casshern and Ringo sit on the edge of a cliff facing the sea. This space between the explosive fights sets just the right tone for a plot that will most likely be tragic.

Where tales of the abyss spent half an episode explaining things and briefing you about their universe, Casshern wastes no time and jumps to the action right away. They seem to understand that once they have won the viewer over, then they can start dishing out the boring details at their leisure.

    Go-go power rangers!

casshern sins will drag a lot. although the fight scenes are really fast and well-executed, there are only a few and they're pretty spaced out. episode 7 almost had no fight scenes.

it isn't action in the classical sense. if you're loooking for guaranteed action, then shonen would be your best option. casshern sins isn't shonen.

it's cyberpunk, and like most material from this genre, there's an abundance of depression and destruction. from an overall point of view, it tries to examine our future and how bleak it is. about how machines, man's supposed path to utopia, will instead lead to dystopia.

in this show, casshern is one of the most perfect beings around. everyone describes him as "beautiful". yet he is also responsible for the destruction of the world. casshern himself does not know why he did it, and wishes to atone for his sins. think of it as bourne identity on a grand postmodern scale.

it's more of drama rather than action, as casshern is trying to find himself, trying to figure out why he did it, trying to figure out hat it is, although he usually causes more destruction in the process. his quest for atonement only leads to more tragedy.

this show isn't for everyone. it's an alternate look at the old franchise "casshan robot hunter" where casshern was the physically beautiful thing defending the world from the physically ugly things. I myself think that's rather unfair.

i like cyberpunk, and i imagine not a lot of people do.

    Default Hi

The Casshern i was able to watch was the movie live version, the one directed by Utada Hikaru's Director...and wherein the soundtrack was sung by Hiki.... it was like a music video movie...
