A member of the Cebu Provincial Board is asking education officials to look into the possibility of starting classes in September instead of the usual June.
Juan Bolo, who also serves as the chairman of the provincial board's committee on education, said he would seek on Monday the approval of a resolution asking Provincial Schools Division Superintendent Recaredo Borgonia to initiate public consultations on the possibility.
The suggestion, Bolo said, originated from Senate President Franklin Drilon, who wanted to spare schoolchildren from rains during the rainy season, which usually starts in June.
If the consultation turns out positive and the proposal approved this year, then classes from 2007 onwards would start every September.
But before any changes could be adopted, a public consultation should be conducted in order to "determine the pulse of the public."
