USB modem or LAN type modem

hi mga experts!!! i jst wnt to ask you all if i should change my USB modem to a LAN type modem(router)? i hav a 384kbps globelines broadband and im currently using a usb modem (speed touch thopson) because i didnt hav a LAN card during the installation but now i hav upgraded my pc and thinking if it would be btter to change it wth a LAN type after all they dont charge for the replacement...pls help me out...wat r ther pros and cons? thnx!!!!

It depends on your requirements if you have a time limited dsl account better to keep your usb modem since the router/modem is good only if you want internet available 24/7 all day since the router/modem takes care of connecting with your provider and keeps the connection online but if your want the modem to switch off at the same time you turn off the computer better to stick with the usb type

yeah thnx guys but i forgot to tell u that i subscribed for unlimited dsl so iv no problems on the time consumption of my connection... do both of the modems have differences on performance? lyk better down rate than the other? or is it jst that the router manages the auto logon and the usb modem needs to be connected manualy? thanx guys for the speedy reply....

For all intents and purposes the ethernet lan modem or as its known as a DSL Router is a small computer with changeable flash ram as its storage that maintains the dsl connection at the same time it can serve as a dhcp server meaning it can give out automatic ip addresses to any quantity of computer connected to it as well as do firewalling to stop the nasty side of the internet so you can connect your dsl to as many computer as you want although it will get slower as it divides bandwidth for each one.
