    Default Wireless Lan Help

hey guys i need help with my wireless LAN,

my setup is DSL modem is connected to my wireless router, which connects to a hub to connect my non wireless PCs,
the problem is the signal downstairs is low, so i placed a spare wireless router downstairs and connected it to my LAN,
but i set it up as an access point only,( butÂ* is its a different brand)....so right now my house transmits two wireless signals AP1 and AP2

    LAN functions work well but...

how do i configure my laptop to automatically select the one with the stronger connection in areas where the signals overlap
right now im doing things manually, connect whichever is stronger
coz sometimes it says on my wireless network list that im not connected, but i can still acess the net

i know its a complex problem but maybe theres a solution...heheheh

set your access point into repeater mode. In this case, its easier than to configure roaming.

Are you mixing 802.11g and b among your clients and the AP's? The poor signal downstairs (I am assuming this is a flight of stairs down, and not several floors down?) is really surprising considering that my laptop can tap into my neighbor's (unsecured AP) without me knowing . Really, I think you can reconfigure your 2nd AP as in the passthrough mode (disable DHCP in AP2 I think would be an initial step). Look it up.

Im using 802.11g!, iDHCP is disabled on AP2, its configured to be just an access point the signal is poor downstairs coz the walls of our house are really thick and there are many rooms, so the siganl cant pass thru

i was able to check some wifi forums in the net, it seems that a lot of people hve the same problem, they recommended that i use the same SSID but different channels, so right now my laptops conencts to the AP with a higher siganl, and i can roam around the house now....
    hehehhe

    thnks!!!!

using the same SSID is the best way to go, i made the network key and password the same for my AP and my classmates AP, sometimes with Wi-fi around i accidentally tap into my neighbors wifi without knowing!! only when i check the connection thats when i disconnect and connect to mine, i want to go over there and make it secure for him but with my other neighbors who might be leeching off his wi-fi might get pissed, heheh free internet for everybody!
