i pressume your are on a 2mbps plan.

    150KB/s is not bad already.

downloads would not only depend on the connection side (PLDT or GLOBE).... it depends also where you will download.... I use GLOBE dsl residential plan. they also have a business plan

when i download at www.mircosoft.com which surely has a lot of bandwidth i can get 200KB/s sometimes more..... but again it depends how many are connected to microsoft.

on some not well known sites i can get 30KB/s so its not Globe's fault here.....

If you do bandwidth test.... you will notice there are times globe is slow... again this could be due to peak hours... during off-peak hours its fast..... I haven't tried their business plan yet.... there could be a difference here since business plans have better service....

Globe is addiing more subscribers so expect some slow downs. I already callled globe tech support about some slow downs.....

I think your PLDT at 150KB/s is still acceptable....

if in your area there are lots of pldt dsl users then that could be the reason why you can't go beyond 150KB/s.... there could be other people also eating up the bandwidth...

Overall i am satisfied with globe....

    2mbps = 250 kB/s unta download nako...mo sugot nako makakuha ko ug 210+ kB/s ug ang upstream 769kbps ako makuha 50 kB/s lang supposedly 96kB/s

mo dc sad 1 to 2 minutes nya balik dayon...ang globe ingana sad? mo dc kariyo nya balik dayon? 2-3x a week

that is why i said to test your true bandwidth go to sites that have a FAT PIPES like www.microsoft.com so you will know how good is your connection

not so well known sites will give you slower connections as i have mentioned sometimes 20KB/s only

comcast is a cable internet so its understandable.... cable has always been faster compared to dsl.... all the more you are in the US.... the number of hops is lower....

Globe i can say will never disconnect unless they are doing maintenance( 3 times it happened already)... my connection is almost 6 days already... i know of some users going 30 days with no disconnections....

    2mbps doesn't mean you will get 250KB/s

2mbps is under ideal conditions... sometimes under lab conditions.... DSL was never a perfect broadband solution.... it runs on a phoneline you have to remember that.... Phonelines are old technology.... DSL is just a stop gap measure.... it should be replace soon... WiMax.... or better fiber optic to home....

for me 2mbps residential plan (there is a business plan i keep reminding because business plans have better bandwidth you can check it out)

    downspeed under best condition 210KB/s i did it using testmy.net off-peak around 10 p.m.
upspeed under best condition 40KB/s off-peak also at 10 p.m.

@dagget: cable has always been faster compared to dsl

naka sulay naka cable? ang dsl seperate ang down/up...bisan i dungan nimo download ug upstream mao gihapon imo makuha bisan hayo pa nimo...ang cable basta mag download ka makuhaan imo upstream same ra sa mag upload ka

ang cable's bandwidth limits are higher (but you'll never reach them), and because it's not dependent on distance from a central office, it's more consistent from user to user and with DSL, you'll generally get higher speeds the closer you live to the phone company's central office.

    yup i tried cable

in my cousin's place in san diego

cable is evolving.... they don't use coax cable only. its a hybrid cable connection. much better that dsl.... so cable internet now is a two way lane..... they even offer phone service on cable because the bandwidth is getting bigger with upgrades...

DSL the case is the same.... if you use both up and down you will notice there will be decrease in either upstream and downstream....

i already tested it a couple of times....

with DSL distance is a factor.... that is one drawback..... DSL still passes thru the phone lines... so i still believe its a stop gap solution... not the ideal last mile broadband connection.... Cable or fiber optic is still the way to go....

globe uses ADSL.... so the upstream and downstream can be affected in terms of load during download and upload.....

globequest uses SDSL.... at a higher price... i think this is what you mean separate upstream and downstream and you can use every available bandwidth up and down....

what exactly is SDSL and why is it important? SDSL stands for symmetric digital subscriber line and it is being targeted predominantly at small- to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

It differs in several ways from its better known cousin, ADSL (asymmetric digital subscriber line), which is chiefly meant to be a residential offering. ADSL provides high-speed bandwidth if users are downloading data but not if they are uploading it. For example, a typical download speed might be 2Mb per second, while upload speeds will come in at a mere 256Kbps.

Moreover, ADSL has a 20:1 contention rate, which means that customers share the line with either 19 others. As a result, it is theoretically possible that if everyone used the line at the same time, data speeds could plummet to 100Kbps for downloading and 12.8Kbps for uploading -- not comparing well with the average 56Kbps modem.

    Up and down
SDSL, on the other hand, has the same upload and download speeds, which currently range between 500Kbps and 2Mbps. It also boasts contention rates of only 10:1, which means that service is better because users share a line with only nine others.

Another advantage for business customers is that, depending on the vendor, SDSL comes with service level agreements (SLAs). These SLAs guarantee certain levels of availability and reliability and if service falls below what is promised, service credits are provided as compensation.

karon dsl ko sa pldt...walay undang ako connection mag upload/download ug file 24/7 wala ko ka bantay naay apekto sa speed ug mag download ko sa ako upstream, ug naa man gani dli pariha sa cable

cable are sharing the bandwidth with more people so speed can change...its more volatile

as i said cable is going Hybrid..... before you share with the neighborhood.... but now they use a different cable.... not the coax anymore....

DSL i posted there contention rate.... it applies also to us..... especially during peak hours.....

i tested it when i uploaded files you may not feel it at 2mbps.... but it happens... uploads affect downloads....

if you really need 200plus KB/s then go with SDSL....

a lot of businesses use it....
