Default How other SE Countries perceive us?

I got this from the Thai Subforum of another forum.

    Quote:

    ILoveThaksin wrote:

Thaksin is the best thing that Thailand ever has. Unfortunately, the social conduct and ideas of many Thai people are pretty much third world. Many of Thai people are comparable to social conduct in Africa. People are lack of international business and the developed world view (even if they are educated abroad). Thaksin is a first world leader who rules the third world nation. For example, it is tough for Tony Blair to rule Ghana since people there are babarian and uncivilized. The same truth is for Thaksin. He's best leader Thailand or Asia ever has, and now all the loser want him out. I'm sad for Thailand. Have you ever notice that people who are anti-Thaksin are pretty much a loser. For example, Sondhi's business is collapse and bankrupt. Jumlong is a old conservative man who never embrace a change and modernize himself. He never wear anything except that blue shirt. He should go back to Burma and live with tribal people in the mountain.

My points. Thaksin is best thing Thailand has ever has. We are envied by other developing countries to have such a capable, agressive, smart, sharp, and wise leader. He's the only hope for Thailand to become modernize and rise as global power. If he continues to be our prime minister, we will be the next S. Korea, Taiwan, Japan, Spain, and Singapore.

If he is not, we will go backward and become Phillipines and Vietnam. I will never live in Thailand for a very long time. I'll invest my money in Malaysia, Singapore, and Eastern Europe.

I hope the best for our country, Thailand.

ugh...how dare that writer compare their country to ours? as if they're way ahead than the philippines and vietnam. no they're not! i am offended.

he's saying thaksin is the best leader that thailand or asia could ever have... wait, asia? i don't even know who thaksin is. if he's talking about the whole of asia, that's very arrogant of him. and spain is in europe for crying out loud! not in asia.

there are good leaders in every country and there's not one whose superior over the other. i believe that each of these good leaders became one out of their unique national and regional situations.

feeling ra kaayo siya! i think it is offending for someone to say the people of ghana are barbaric and uncivilized. that's generalization. i doubt if the writer has ever been there at all. pataka lang siyag sulat.

The topic was how other SE countries perceived the Philippines. He didn't directly attack the Philippines. So how highly does at least one person in Thailand think of the Philippines? ... not very high ... backwards. I am inclined to agree.

The author of that is just like us here in iSTORYA , voicing out his or her opinions. Though he/she may have used Philippines as an example , it is the probability again of POLITICS being involved because of whats going on right now in the Philippines and maybe he or she read it somewhere else also .

Dili pa ingon ana ka desperado ang Pinas like what I knew of Thailand .... brothers and fathers offering their 15 year old sister or daughter to sleep with you in exchange of money and ok ra sa babay na involved . See .... its reciprocal , any Thailander who can read this could be offended but unsay mabuhat niya na tinuod man even though unsa pa na ka puti ug pino ang mga whitesand beaches nila .

I can see the similarities with other PRO-GMA open letters.... indeed Thailand and the Philippines have very much in common this days. An embattled president and people who think that they are the best thing that ever happen in their country.

I don't care about what people from other SE Asian countries' perception about the Philippines.
I myself perceive it like how I see it.. "a country going down the drain".
until I can see progress and poverty of the majority of Filipinos alleviated,
I'll stick to my perception. call me whatever you want but I'm not
gonna sugar-coat the reality of the plight of my countrymen.

@klavel: when you're down, there's nowhere else to go but up, right?
I hope this also applies to our country's economy.
it's been a long and bumpy ride for my fellow Filipinos,
but I think it's gonna stay this way for another hundred years maybe...

There were actually five quotes in that forum written by Thais, and someone from Singapore.

The topic was actually about the turmoil in Thailand. There was even a topic there about Thais that are unfriendly to tourists from poor nations and the example he gave was Philippines, nations in Africa, India, and Vietnam. So meaning, he sees our country comparable to Africa where some are innear famine condition.. But I disagree with that forumer saying that Thais are unfriendly -- I've been to Bangkok, all of them are so friendly and helpful, from the taxi drivers to the vendors, etc..etc..

And it's a fact, most of them (in that forum) still sees the Philippines comparable to Cambodia and Vietnam in terms of infrastructure, economy, and even technology. I went on a sidetrip to Cambodia too when I went to Bangkok, their capital city looks like just any small city in the Philippines. But that's how they see us..
