my friend was exposed to this kind of virus coz she has a patient who acquired the disease...
unfortunately... she was 4 months pregnant right now.
according to the books we can acquire the disease through bodily secretions
and mostly pregnant and children are the one's who are highly at risk to acquire the disease..
and sad to say we cannot tell if a certain person has the virus coz it has no symptoms at all
not unless the baby comes out and manifest the symptoms..
up until now the disease has no cure and there is no vaccine available in the market...
and sad to say, we still have to go to manila just to diagnose the disease....

there's about a 50% chance that the baby will have it...sad to say, if this is the case, the child may grow up with hearing loss and mental retardation...

on the bright side, if she got infected BEFORE the pregnancy, then the chance of the baby getting the virus is slim

your friend ought to be psychologically ready for whatever outcome

and when the baby comes out, she should consult with her physician before initiating breast-feeding
